looking at the teenagers swimming,
how much was the seawater temperature ?

there are many underwater wells
in some places the water can be very cold

in summer after a few weeks sunchine, the water temperature goes up,
ones we had 27 degrees, but on average its 23..24 °C
that is only the upper layer of say 5 to 10 meters

when the bura comes, it blows away that upper layer, and cold water comes on the surface, 18 or even 16 degrees we had ones, brrrr

There is also a great little restaurant in Dubrovnik right down by the sea just outside the town walls... Restaurant Orhan.. worth trying

yes Orhan is also OK, just next door to Nautica

when you're in Dubrovnic, and don't fancy the most expensive and highest quoted restaurants,
when we are there with the kids and friends,
we often go to:

Poklisar; the kids like the piza, but also fresh and good meet / fish dishes,
Lokanda; quick and young dynamic servants, only a few typical dishes, but very good
both are in the old harbour,

Amoret is also nice, fresh fish and well served.

Mike I really enjoyed that post, excellent pictures. THANKS for sharing the more I read about the various trips the more confidence I seem to get in going further afield myself .....

According to my Tridata it was 23degC

Yup, I forgot to mention that as a minus point for Croatia. Compared to the Balearics where the water temp is 26-28degC from June through to Oct, we found the water temp in Croatia last year only really warm in August, around 25-26deg. When we came back in Sept, it was already cooler and by Oct, it was too cold to swim. As I say, I think there's an upside to this in terms of less hull and sterngear fouling and less jellyfish

I guess you are referring to Porto Montenegro http://www.portomontenegro.com/? Its supposed to be very swish and for the moment its relatively cheap including the fuel which is available duty free if you are leaving Montenegro. I have heard that its only part developed and there's still a lot of building work going on at present but, apparently, there's already a selection of shops and restaurants. Its also well located, only about 1hr from Dubrovnik airport.
Croatia is supposed to be joining the EU in 2013. IMHO the real point of Porto Montenegro is that its going to provide a berth for superyachts within easy distance of the best European cruising grounds but still allowing them to avoid VAT and any other EU taxes the bureacrats dream up. With Greece on one side talking about bringing in a boat tax and Croatia on the other side joining the EU in 2013 and having to conform with EU VAT rules, Porto Montenegro could be very strategic

we discussed before that this harbour still is a very interesting option for us Mike,
we never thought about it, thanks for that !
I know plenty of people who can bring the boat from Tivat to Cavtat each time when i'm there, and Cavtat is only 5 minutes from the airport as you know.
I 'am seriously considering to travel Blue Angel to croatia nex year,
but lets first explore SOF as planned and then make future plans :)

looking again at your post, I'm seriously missing the area, and the friends we made there the last 11 years
I hope you can spend some time there these summer months and make the best of it !
enjoy !

This cruise was the first long distance cruise we have done in Croatia as last year we spent all our time exploring places within a short distance of Frapa. I have to say that even though it was not even a week long, it was one of the most enjoyable cruises we've had anywhere and I'm looking forward to doing a few more so we won't be leaving Croatia anytime soon

this is the BartW restaurant tour of the south Dalmatian islands ... My opinion of Croatian cuisine is now considerably higher and my wallet considerably emptier:eek:

Well I have to admid,
while I am finishing my weekend trip Rome - Porto Ercole (Toscani), Islands Giglio and Giannutri, back to Rome right now,
I didn't miss the Croatian cuisine for one second :)

You've seen the light obviously!

Great pics and report. Croatia firmly on my shortlist for a visit, though it won't by boat (sadly), unless anybody hereabouts needs some crew :D
