Thanks Baggywrinkle I have filled in both forms and received a paper to show on my "windscreen". The form does allow me to select "own vessel" so there is some hope. May have to sail to UMAG to try entry and if refused sail back. Bit of a pain but worth a try.

GeorgeTina,
Be aware that if you are sailing through Slovene waters (which you will to reach Umago if setting off from anywhere north of Aprilia), your vessel must be registered. If you're on the British SSR, no problem, but if your yacht flies an Italian flag it's potentially an issue if your boat is a natante, i.e. one without registration. The Slovenes have said they will start enforcing the law as of now and there is the potential for high fines.

Thanks for the warning but our yacht is on the ssr register and is UK flagged. Not had a problem so far but have been checked by the Italian and Croatia marine services. No problems but I double check all paper work and am always polite to the authorities. !!

Yes - Had to go to the police station to check out for the last two years. Used to just have to email them. Bit of a pain as you can only do it on the day you are leaving so you cannot go early. We get round this by going the evening before but then you are required to leave before 8.00. There is normally a patrol boat (rib full of police in black with guns!!!) on the direct route to Croatia.

'grief! Where do you sail from? I have never come across any Italian patrol boat doing much prowling in my neck of the woods, and there's a constant coming and going to Slovenia and beyond.
