In France all insurance is taxes, including house insc,My boat is British reg part 1,and i still pay the French TVA! Ill ask my agent if it can be reduced to 5.5% but i know the answer!

Did you get a PDA? In the next week im going to be looking for software that mke them more user freindly. The worst thing for me is the lack of keyboard for sending my Free online MMS SMS and emails

My telecom allows free MMS by internet,so no extera charges for conecting in another contry add portable skype firefox and thunderbird.!

Trouville,
surely if you are part 1 reg then you can get UK insurance?.
...hmm maybe not as you may need to be a uk resident.......not to sure on that.

But it may be worth checking with an online insurer, you may also save a few bucks/euros.

ref PDA .. no not got yet still looking at all the options not to sure that with my big digets & failing eyesight I could use one on a dark night at sea in a 6/7!

On a dark night at sea mine will be in its plastic case, and only brought out on walm day to sit on a bench near to a wifi site, and read with a magifying glass!!

At least along those lines! Ive given up PDA or laptop GPS, just to expensive and far to complicated,im staying with paper charts and a Garmin GPS!

When are you leaving and to the Balerics?

I am a retired insurance broker.

There is no reason to my knowledge why you would need to be a UK resident to have UK insurance, except perhaps that a UK insurer might not want to get involved with overseas risks that they might have difficulty in servicing - but I would not have thought that France would be a problem.

As you currently reside in France can you advise on the subject of French ICC. In a later post someone complains about the RYA charge for ICC. What is the cost in France , is the exam difficult and do they need renewal please. It appears Insurance taxes are more than UK but is the ICC?
