Crewseekers

I use crew seekers and have met, and continue to meet some very good crew. I doubt you will racing level crew but have now got some nice friends, who continue to cruise, from the free sevice.
If you get nothing I suspect the 'profile' who are displaying doesn't tick people's boxes.

"sailingnetworks.com",for crew it is free. I`ve been on some amazing trips through people I met there. They list boats which are looking for crew. Jerry

I was looking at Creewseekers membership, as a volunteer crew. It seems the most organised of those I looked at. It seems as a boat owner it's a great deal, as a crew it's a little more commiting. There does seem to be a lot of suitable adverts on there, but some of them are old and there isn't a way to tell which ones have been filled.

As a boat owner can you remove adverts once they are filled up or do they just sit there making the database look impressive?

There's always the free option

Crewseekers is a good site and the guy who runs it, works hard to please all members i beleive... at least he did when i was a member years and years ago. I opt for the free option now and simply keep the following sites always open on my browser:

www.floatplan.com
www.crewbay.com
www.crewfile.com

I know Crewbay is managed well, but because it keeps it's boats up to date, when they get crew, the boats dissappear, making it look like there isn't many available... the webmaster should leave the advert up and stamp it with 'found crew'... or something like that. The opposite occurs with Crewfile and floatplan, and you can sometimes waist your time emailing boats.

Well thought I'd throw something different into the mix so good luck

Steve

I am surprised that sailingnetworks.com has not been mentioned more. I am on this site as a skipper wanting crew and I have been over the moon with it's success. Never been short of crew and met really nice people over the last two years. As far as I know it's free.

Sailing Networks

Fully agree about Sailin Networks. Not only have I found crew (some people need lessons in geography when they ask about weekend sailing) but I have also made some very good friends from the crew that have turned up. Give it a try.

I used Findacrew a few years ago to get some crewing (on shared cost basis) around Malaysia/Thailand, then from Thailand to Maldives. It was quite expensive but I was able to identify that there were skippers looking for crew when & where I was before I paid up to get contact details, so it worked pretty well really...

I am another owner who has been delighted with sailingnetworks. We too have had some really nice people on our boat in the last two years from this website. Seems well organised and free. Lots of crew looking for the chance to go sailing and a good number of boats looking for crew. Anyone must give this site a go.

Hi all

I am one the webmasters for Crewbay and happy to answer any questions in relation to our site.

From an owner perspective (and crew for that matter), we are totally free so we have every sailor and his dog coming through the site. We are stringent with organising this mass of profile information and work hard to ensure you (the browser) aren't wasting time looking at profiles that aren't relevant to you. Recently we've seen a massive surge in traffic and now averaging 5 times as much as last year.

We are developing new ideas all the time, the latest being a new rating graphic on each crew listing, search engine improvements (more to come), anti spam protection, SEO improvement, reference requests for crew profiles (good new for boat owners!), the option to boost your boat listing or make it priority and lots lots more.

Kind regards and safe sailing everyone

Ollie

Joined Crewseekers , emailed loads of boats , think most were full and not removed from the site , got one answer from a skipper that when I got too the Caribbean he changed everything and it didnt work out so left him to it and flew back , would never use Crewseekers again .............. waste of time and money..........

I have used Crewseekers as both crew and skipper over the years and have to say I've been pleased with both outcomes. As crew I have had plenty of very good trips (including a transatlantic on a lovely Oyster 72), and lots of expenses paid delivery trips. I've found it to be good value for money for what I got out of it and have never had a problem getting the trips I wanted. I've since used them as a skipper to get crew myself and met some great people who have become friends and have sailed with me on more than one occasion.

They played a pretty major part in my sailing career and I'm grateful for that.
