Crewseekers

You looking for crew or as crew?

Not used crewseekers but have heard of a few people who have.

It may be worth posting on here in the SBC Crewing Opportunities.

If you're looking for Yorkshire based crew drop me a PM. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I recommend the Cruising Association's service which kept me sailing for years. Non-commercial and a large database, free to members, but don't know current charges. You'll find them on the Web.

As a skipper I used crewseekers all around the world. Got an excellent service from them and some very good crew. They are the biggest and because the crew is required to pay a 'joining' fee I always know that the person is serious and really wants to crew and is interested in sailing not just a whim.

Yep, Crewseekers have provided me with good folk, and they're helpful, prompt, and friendly to deal with.

The Cruising Association is very expensive to join (as a yacht owner), simply as a source of crew, and doesn't seem to offer a lot else. Therefore, although I sail a lot and always take (non-paying) crew, I don't subscribe. A shame, as their members miss out on opportunities.

I've had half a dozen good crew from Crewseeker over the last couple of years ( and a few less good, but you don't have to invite them again). From the owner's point of view, a good system. The crews in question have noticed that females get far more take-up than males - apparently some male skippers have a hidden agenda.

Yes, thanks, I have. Compared to what I get from other yacht club memberships at about the same cost, it's not worth it. For what's on offer, I'd pay about £50 a year, perhaps.

Thanks for all the comments. It looks as though skippers do use Crewseekers which makes it probably worth the membership fee. It's quite a lot (although cheaper than chartering) so I didn't want to whip out my card if I would be throwing the dosh away!

Last year I found it good (as crew) but this year I couldn't find anything during the time I had available. Seemed very slow in the summer while they were changing over their systems. Hope its better now. I'd use them again.

As Kilter points out, it costs peanuts to join their Crewing Service as a non-member.
Could you fall down on their non-commercial stance? Personally I'm all for it, but if you're running a delivery business or sailing school (and your Profile doesn't tell me) then you'll have to look elsewhere.

I regularly recruit crew for yacht deliveries and I don’t use crewseekers.

I would recommend putting a cv together along with some references and sending it out to various relevant companies and organisations.

Good luck,

Pete

I tried them once as a skipper using the free service. I got absolutely no offers of crew and wondered whether that was down to the destinations I was offering being unappealing or that they syphoned off crew offers to paying skippers. Those of you who have had crew through them - did you use the paid subscription?

I know it is early days because my site has only been going for five months, but I already have nearly 600 members and it is completely free, no subscription, no fees, nada.

Clicky on my signature.

I was with crewseekers 2000-2002 and did 2 deliverys with them as crew, no complaints and the skippers they placed me with knew what they were doing.
