You need the requisite tickets before anyone will consider you + references usually.

Knowing about them and having them are two different things.

In March of this year, all you possessed was a VHF certificate of competence.

So you've got the requisite tickets now ?

More tickets you have more chance of gaining employment Commercial Endorsed Advanced Powerboat is a good start for the type of work you mention along with STCW 95 Stuff and one called I think BOSIET required for working offshore in the oil industry and wind farms .

Yeah I know about STCW's and ENG1

Hairdressers/barstewards need those (STCW95) to work at sea, so no indication of boathandling experience.

Go on a course with Tim first.

For crewing, most companies insist on sea survival, 1st Aid, 1 day fire fighting and plenty of experience. For skippering , most windfarm support vessel companies insist on Yachtmaster Offshore with commercial endorsement. Some require the seasurvival, 1st aid & firefighting to be a STCW 95 rather than a RYA or Seafish.

More tickets = more chance of gaining employment. Yeah, true. But if you're happy to look for crewing jobs, they are much easier to get than driving jobs - and you wouldn't need the same qualies as they'd ask a skipper for. If you've got your STCW tickets, that's more than some would require from crew and it would give you the chance to get the experience you're looking for. Try the smaller operators to start with - trips around the bay and stuff like that. I know several folk who started off by helping out on tourist boats as their first job and are now doing some pretty serious stuff (one is First Officer on a superyacht in Fort Lauderdale).

Good luck with it. I wish you well - just don't expect too much too soon without a significant investment in your own training
