Oh so that's what the dubious father christmas hat covers up.. thinking about it he does bare a remarkable likeness to Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest...

Will you stop those snide remarks about French built yachts - not all of them demonstrate the qualities you alude to. Take my Wauquiez, built in france...

.. err, no, hmm, now owned by Beneteau....

.. I'll just go and still over here .. by my self ..

Re: Celine Dion

Don't tell me Celine is too petulant and bitchy for you!

mmm well Jim Reeves might be able to give some pointers in taste .. particulary in the woolly cardigan and hairstyle department..

Pavarotti probably fancies his chances...

She's a mean golfer too so I wouldn't mind playing around with her./forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Re: Celine Dion

An empty glass another coin in the jukebox this pain inside keeps hurtin' on and on
The music starts a blue blue song is playing
You don't need me anymore now I'm alone
But the guy who writes that lonely music
Needs lonely hearts like mine that he can write about
As the words tell their story how I miss you
This lonely music keeps reminding me of you
So talk to me talk to me oh lonely music it tells me I'm a fool for trusting you
Just can't hold back the tears any longer this lonely music keeps reminding me of you

Re: Nina Simone

Well I confess to being a former MGB enthusiast but forget all this woosy Celine stuff, I would more liken it to the fading rock star.

Had a bit of punch in its day, but age caught up with it, couldn't properly reinvent itself so it died.....but years march on and now its classic.

I can remember it now.. driving back from the sailing club, hood down, ZZ Top's Eliminator blasting away on the stereo, it had to be loud to overcome the wind noise ......great days..

But we don't sail Enterprises anymore and I can't listen to what I like either because my son always wants some trendy urban sh*t on.

Oh well......

Must admit I fancy buying a TVR Chimaera to recreate those moments but with a bit more power and comfort !

Re: Nina Simone

As a former MGB owner I would assume that according to my attempt at profiling you would actually be more in tune with Nina Simone.. according to the profiling you will also own or lust after a longish - long keeler with low freeboard and narrow beam..

In addition you will be 50 - 60 wear jeans and post frequently on SB regarding the benefits of aformentioned boat, and being thinking of going live aboard / world cruiseing in a few years time. You will have been to Uni in the late 60's early 70's but escaped the glam rock stuff at it's worst (Mud & Rod Stewart) but have a soft spot for the Stones and quite possibly David Bowie's early stuff. Occasionally you will deviate into full blown Bee Bop and think you can dance. Some Nina Simone types think they can play Sax/Bass etc too!

Re: Nina Simone

Don't go much for you profiling skills.

Just turned 40, don't like long keel boats, most of my favoured music is 80's rock / prog rock, to young to remember the early Stones stuff. Currently listening to REM, U2 and Coldplay.

Stll racing dinghies / catamarans, charter Bavs and Bens, and sail on my friends 35ft catamaran which is a modern French design of 1997 vintage.

Got a lot wrong there didn't you.

When I was 18 I prefered to drive an old MGB roadster rather than a knackered escort or capri.

The MGB was the most popular sportscar in the world before the Nissan 240Z / 260Z came along and then the Mazda MX5.

The B is only classic on the list... doesn't deserve to be there IMHO.

Re: Nina Simone

You forgot the profile of a yoghourt pot owner:

40-50, still with children in tow;
Have white boat with sugar scoop, pot catching keel and rudder (well, some of them do) living in marina where they moan about charges
Ex-caravanner, well not quite ex;
Fray Bentos addicts;
Forever banging on about the latest in cruising laminates and spinnakers;
Used to be into punk but now like young screeching singers;
All own DSC radios and tell us consistently about the noise they make;
Own EPIRBs yet rarely leave The Solent;
Own a Ford, BMW or Honda.

Re: Nina Simone

Mini, Mk1 Cortina, Jensen 541R, MGB, BMW316, 320, 323i, Porsche 911, Land Rover, Fiesta, Micra, Audi 80, Merc C240

Jensen was the best but no good when I moved to Italy. Very nearly bought a Ferrari Dino '78 for the princely sum of 4k.

At the risk of being boring

6 things I like about Rival Spirit:

1. Known her forever and trust her to look after me however poor my sailing skills
2. Safe, sea keeping qualities
3. Easy sail handling
4. Safe cockpit
5. Comfy cabins
6. Her lines and looks

6 things I like about AWBs

1. Their speed
2. Internal volumes
3. Modern gear
4. Handling in marinas
5. Large sunlounging cockpits
6. Ease of resale

There, I'm not that ungenerous, I hope
