I had my racing dinghy insured with them - very cheap compared to the others.
However, despite their 'new for old' policy - when I broke a £1,000 carbon fibre mast in half they only paid up £600 (excess was £50) saying that the old mast was 5 years old and therefore needed 'wear and tear' allowance deducting.
I thought this was a bit off on what was sold as a 'new for old' policy!
Just my experience though - and I haven't insured anything other than a dinghy with them.
We have the E Boat insured with them and when we claimed after she broke her mooring and ran aground damaging the hull / keel they were very good. The next years premium didn't go up by much either so very happy.
I have been with them for 3-4 years, no claims, the price has remained about the same over this period. The T's & C's look to be reasonable, single handing, survey period.
I think they keep the costs down partly by not offering cover to boats in 'higher risk' areas such as Portland Harbour.
Have been with them for about four years. We did make a claim for around £2k due to an unfortunate encounter with an island in the Thames. They paid up promptly and without fuss on the strength of a couple of digital photos and a fax or two.
Thanks for the feedback people. All sounds OK to me.They also do it on a monthly basis which takes some of the pain away /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Thanks Guys, I've just insured with them and saved £100 on my quote from Bishop skinner. Off to spend it on something nice now!. Isn't the internet great!
Good geographic spread, good for single-handers, NCB "up front". The downer is they require a survey no older than 3 years, which will add a few hundred quid to the premium every 3 years.
I challenged them on this last year and said I would move insurer because it is a daft requirement. They replied that a "boatyard" hull and rig report would suffice for the next 3 years. Then I will move to Bishop Skinner......
