We set off on Sunday and made for Lowestoft for the Broads but a phone call half way and we discoverd the bridges were only opening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and with 24hrs notice. So we turned round, thought better of the Ore in falling light and back to the Deben. Still, we figured out how to use the chute and snuffer.
A night at the Rocks followed by carving some more family names on the tree and then off to Butley Creek. A superb sail and a very quiet night. Then one of the best sails ever, this time up to Aldeburgh, just managing to weather each twist and turn of the Ore/Alde, the only time The Kipper has sailed like a dinghy. SWMBO and younkers to the shops, I got some kip.
Another night or two at Butley Creek then a cracking sail back, a whole hatful of wind, no reefs and The Kipper actually healing like a sort of sailing boat, shoulder to the waves and the wheelhouse full of sun and sea breeze with doors and windows open, but enough shelter to still wear shorts. A bit of a mad dash up the river to catch the last of the flood to Granary.
We're moving to Fox's in June and won't be exploring this part of the coast as much, probably be much more occasional visitors to the Deben, it's a great place to be. Lovely weather this week, all three children content and the dogs were good company as usual. Lucky to have this as a local cruising ground.
