Cracked hull windows. Any advice?

In fact, in terms of sun exposure and thermal excursions (assuming that this is the critical factor)

I suggested the cause might be thermal exposure or gradient on page 2, Portofino poo poo'd the idea.

A structural and thermal 3D FEA is a pretty complex piece of work and even then only relies on the inputs to the model being correct.

Look how many canting keels fell off in the early days for a demo of how tough some of these designs are and how misunderstood the inputs can be.

Easy peasy to stick a window on in a factory, keeping it there while the boat is baking in the sun and blam blaming through a rough sea for 10 years another matter altogether.

jfm; I don't buy the theory of your yard that it is temp related- cars parked in the sun get hotter for longer than boats. I think it is more likely to be a combo of poor application techniques and differential flexing of the grp hull and the sheet of glass.[/QUOTE said:
Agree .
Just to be clear two issues recently highlighted not necessarily connected ,but maybe *
# laminate glass -- reasons as above
And debonding

Dedonding may be a thermal gradient induced issue along with UV degregation of the bond so it let's go .
That will just cause leaks ,mould etc

* -depends how they done it
V1 - built /incorporated /glassed in a substantial frame ,that transmits all the foreseeable stress ,protecting what ever is fitted inside --could be shoe pastry or laminated glass --it feels no relevant stress - here it cannot # through flexing ,cos it feels none --but the may debond through UV degregation and leak .

V2 - not so big frame ,relying on the actual bonded glass -laminated to carry the strength ,indeed actually strengthen the hull ,when the bond is fully set end up with a rigid structure , more rigid together than either the glass or hull individually .
Here if enough force is applied the glass cracks as its transmitted directly through it ,via the degrading ( hardening -less absorbing or poorly fitted ) deteriating bond --it also may leak as well .

Anyways hope it all fixed soon and stays fixed for a while ?
