Cowes Yacht Haven is rubbish

CYH is not the nicest marina for a quiet night

I once had a bad night in CYH :

Wake from passing ferries kept things bouncing.

A loud and rowdy party on a Challenge Business charter boat nearby - bottle throwing at passers by but they were too drunk to do any damage.

Loud music from a power boat. In the end I went to complain and I found a single man dancing in the saloon, happy , drunk and celebrating his brand new boat.

He did turn it down a bit.

I like Shepards Wharf, East Cowes or the Folly much better.

...and if this was the same Sunsail lot that left on Friday morning, about 8 boats, corporate race day?? It wasn't long before there was a MayDay, or to be more correct, someone screaming down the mike, "man overboard, man overboard!!", it took the CG a little while to calm the guy down and get details. When the CG operator asked "has he got a life jacket on?", No was the reply!! FFS!! Anyway they fished him out, but he was in a bad way, the last thing I heard was that the helio was being scrambled.

So lets turn this into a life jacket/sunsail rant shall we?

If you are running a business providing boats for 'corporate race days', putting totally inexperienced people onto boats to do some 'racing', people who were pissed last night, hungover now, you should have a duty of care to make sure everyone is wearing a life jacket. This is nothing to do with choice at all, you spend a day doing some circuits at Goodwood, you wear a crash hat, the same mentality should apply when you put numpties on a corporate race boat.

...and that's down to the skipper, isn't it, whether he works for Sunsail or anybody else, or even if he doesn't work at all.

I think that the attraction with the Cowes Yacht Haven is ....... nope, can't think of one these days. Shepherds for lunch stop, East Cowes or Folly for overnight.

If you're trying to avoid Sunsail, East Cowes is not imune either. CYH was so packed with them this weekend they had migrated across the river.

Fabulous night at the Folly though! Apparently full of lesbians; didn't see one myself though! :D:D Just loads of pirates.
