Cowes chain ferry now working

as a potential boat resident on the east side of the Medina it really bothers me little as by car it is just a bit longer to drive round and as a pedestrian a simple row boat ferry would do, even my own boat or tender. Neither side has attraction big enough to want instant hopping over. If work were the real issue I would choose to live where the work is, probably on the mainland which can be reached by a ferry to/from either side can it not or has that changed in my foray overseas.. Back to blue sky thought. a pedestrian tunnel would be simple and cheap, a helicopter a tourist attraction. A high level pedestrian bridge another with elevators either side and walkway between. Think of the views.

Daft you betcha, but no more so than a ferry wot don'tdo wot it said on the meccano box lid picture. ;)

Wasn't that Newcastle's ' Transporter Bridge ' or something like that ? Jumbleduck will be along in a sec' to put me right...

You rubbed my lamp, O Master?

There is also one in Middlesbrough and a disused one for road and rail traffic in Warrington. For some reason, transporter bridges, in the UK at any rate, always seem to have been in utter dumps.

All I would hope to see this year is a reliable passenger service back in use by Easter and a water taxi service which is not summoned to help out whenever there is any degree of tide running. I doubt having travelled on the replacement boat at high tide a Dartmouth type solution would work but cleary if they restored an efficient water taxi then this would reduce the number of people waiting to cross as foot passengers and missing the red jet to Soton.

CHC have asked for tenders for a water taxi service, so hopefully we might see a new service in Cowes this year. Last year was terrible for us, and the its us or nothing attitude really made us reconsider Cowes as a base.

We will see what the new year brings, and hope CHC manage to turn the clock back a couple of years and reinstate the level of service Cowes used to have.

Thanks for that MedinaView- as a Haslar boat we like to visit East Cowes and happy to use a water taxi but it does seem to have been sporadic last year and the replacement FB6 was a joke .

Maybe D&R would be more competent in running a water taxi than CHC though.

The few times we tried to use the water taxi late night service they had finished early and didn't answer they're phone.

A year ago water taxis were plentiful and the floating bridge was great, and now.

Hopefully it's in hand hey.
