Cost of bringing all line back to the cockpit?

Easing the foresail prior to furling is not something I have come across, is this a normal/accepted/required practice?

I've generally set the foresail tension at the mast and left if there until I come to take it down again. Not suggesting that is the prescribed way to do it - but until one learns an alternative - one goes with what we know. Every day is a learning day.

I am sure there is more than one valid approach to this, but for me I’d say: If you don’t tension the foresail luff to suit the conditions you won’t point efficiently and you’ll be overpowered in a blow. If you do, and leave it stored like that, it’ll lose its shape with the result that over time... you won’t point efficiently and you’ll be overpowered in a blow.

And it’s hard to furl with full luff tension left on.
