Nothing there bears out your contention the Croatian authorities confirmed the fines were illegal. See my #8 in which I say "I'd really like to see the full text of their letter to the Tourism Ministry and the reply. It's unlikely to have been as cut and dried as the imply". Selectively quoting from the reply without letting us see the question in full is in my view disingenuous. Lots of innuendo and allegations but zero proof.

I don't doubt their honesty, they seem like a lovely couple and the boat and vids are amazing.

Jazzing up the story with a couple of omissions and an emotive term isn't necessarily dishonest, and it's got the vid shared on at least one sailing forum....
I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. They have made totally defamatory allegations against individual customs officers who are clearly visible in their video without offering a shred of proof any corruption was involved. They also imply the alleged corruption is endemic in Croatia. In my view dishonest is not too strong a term to use. By filming them secretly without permission they have exploited the customs officers for their own personal financial gain and probably broken a number of laws in the process.

I'd probably have agreed with you if I hadn't watched a fair few of their videos in the past. I don't believe they're the sort of people who'd do what you're implying.

But they did. With absolutely no evidence or basis for it he accused the customs officers of corruption when he was handing over the money. If they have evidence let's see it. Otherwise it's just a cheap shot at easy targets who are not in a position to defend themselves to the substantial audience this couple appears to have.

Again, I have to disagree. The couple believe they were being had, and knowing they'd really got no alternative to paying, set out - maybe half-heartedly - to film some evidence. They have possibly got a lot of voice recording that might have persuaded you, but that doesn't make good watching. He's also not stupid, to accuse a customs officer to his face he'd have to be absolutely certain that said officer knew he was corrupt. Getting that wrong at that end of the Med would be more than foolish. And as one who has had to deal with corrupt customs officers in the UK and Greece I'm not only pretty sure that you find bad apples everywhere but would question your idea of who the easy targets are.

I don't think they're bad people, but some critical facts here aren't disputed. They *did* fail to mention the fact they had a receipt. They did fail to mention they thought the employee was working to targets. (As opposed to freelancing and pocketing the money.) They might not be the sort of people who would defame someone, but they have done it.

If you haven't done so could I ask you to read my #8. I've said there may have been maladministration. If there's evidence of corruption by the officers concerned could you please point it out to me. Was the guy in the video stupid? Definitely not. It seems to me he established the officers didn't fully understand him or were just paying no attention to him ranting and he felt secure in making his snide allegations for the benefit of his hidden camera.

If corruption is rife in the country I would have thought others might have noticed. Corroboration would be helpful though lack of it proves nothing.
As a student I crossed the country. I made one transaction in a station - and was screwed.

She is a journalist by profession and so I think that they would think twice about publishing false allegations. I don't understand, when they say that the Ministry of Tourism said that no such taxes exist, that you cannot simply accept that the customs people were trying it on.

It wouldn't be the first time that border officials have tried it on with me.

They have given us zero evidence of corruption which is what they're alleging. Their selective treatment of the communication from the Ministry is very slick. If you think for a minute that journalists always set out to tell the truth you are being naive. Journalists stretch the truth to breaking point to sell copy or videos and sometimes just downright lie to us.

Didn't Bojo claim he was a journalist to justify racist and xenophobic scribblings?
