Coronavirus and Greece

Finally, we got out for some Sailing, today. (Gouvia bay, Corfu)
Turned out to be rather blustery, around 17 knots, gusting to well over 22......
Somewhat unexpected but Exhilarating!!
Anyways, no Customs, Port Police or Coast Guard showed any interest in us, and we were the only ones out there.

Is that really about citizenship or isn't it actually about country of origin (departure)? Important difference for those of us stuck with the boat in a third country.

The exact word used in the announcement is "visitors". It is still unclear to me whether other nationalities can enter if they board a flight arriving from a country in the list.

At the moment any Brits arriving in Greece must self isolate for 14 days, although not really sure how you’d get there, which ‘implies’ it is country of flight departure.
We’ve put our flights back to the 1st July into Preveza , Cleopatra can’t launch until the 7th though as fully booked before then so it looks to me like a lot of people are looking at the beginning of July as a season start.

Chris

The 14 day self isolation is for all international arrivals and is presently until the end of may. we see on monday if it will be renewed. Also UK citizen will get test at athens airport.
a few people have been arriving from uk via other countries. YMMV
boat is not accepted for isolation. need 14 day property rental.

Here are the main ones that you can't enter from, at this moment . . . . . .

The Greek government will consider lifting the ban on citizens of other countries based on what it considers the success of pandemic control in each nation. Currently, flights from the USA, UK, Russia, Italy, Spain, France and Brazil into Greece are banned.

We are driving over to Greece on the 19th June and providing our reason for travelling does not hit a brick wall (which is to our main residence) we should be able to transit the above mentioned without issue.
At the moment we have all the relevant forms that are available for each country for transit.
We are definitely putting ourselves into quarantine regardless of any relaxations, this way is the fair way, then there can't be any finger pointing if anyone local becomes positive. Well that my theory anyways.

Ανοίγουν τα σύνορα για τουρίστες από 29 χώρες

this makes more sense
visitors on the first list of countries will be able to arrive freely and will be sample tested.
visitors not on the list will have to do 14 day quarantine (and probably have to be each tested)
country will be according to passport (presumably unless you have some documents to provide country of residence)

According to the EU commission, Greece can't use nationality to determine if you're allowed in. Only the country of departure of the plane.

At the risk of joining the awkward squad, do you have a source for this? I'm a wondering what the situation is in respect of those of who drive to Greece. cheers

Dutch tourists are not yet welcome in Greece. The Ministry of Tourism in Athens today published a list of 29 nationalities that will be allowed to return from 15 June. The Dutch are not there.

Dutch people who board a plane to Greece in Germany, for example, do not enter the country.
The Greeks therefore select by nationality and not by the origin of the aircraft. But that is not allowed at all, says the European Commission. A spokesperson tells the NIS that countries that open their borders to certain other countries must treat all travelers on that route in the same way.
"A country may, based on the health situation in another country, stop or subject travelers to mandatory testing or quarantine," said the spokesperson. This is still the case for everyone who visits Greece and would also apply to Dutch people after 15 June.
This is allowed for flights that depart from Schiphol, for example, but not if a Dutch tourist travels from, for example, an airport in Germany to Greece.

According to the EC spokesperson, the non-discrimination principle then applies: "There should be no discrimination on grounds of nationality.
A Dutch passenger on board that aircraft must be treated exactly the same as a German or a Belgian. If this does not happen, a traveler can first go to the national, but eventually also to the European judge to be proven right. "

No corona test
According to the Greeks, the list was drawn up on the basis of the so-called epidemiological profile of the country. This means that it has countries that have been able to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Those countries include China and South Korea, but also Central European and Scandinavian countries.
Tourists from those countries will soon be able to travel to Greece again.

The tourists from the approved countries will not have to do a corona test or quarantine. Samples will be taken. The Greek authorities emphasize that the list will be regularly reviewed.
Aircraft from approved countries may initially only fly at the international airports of Athens and Thessaloniki. From 1 July, this will gradually be extended to all Greek airports.

Maybe I'm missing something so apologies in advance, if so, but I don't see Ireland on either of the 15 June arrival categories. Any idea where we fit in?

You'll have to wait until phase 3 on 1st July when international flights from all (most) countries will start, with random testing. Greece has said that additional restrictions for certain countries will be announced "at a later date" - presumably before 1st July.
