Coronavirus and Greece

Isn't it the case that the requirement for anyone entering the UK to go into 14-day quarantine will make it most unlikely anyone will leave the UK except for the long-term?
Yes, and we can also expect to see other countries imposing quarantine requirements on arrivals from UK. It’s a nonsense, imposing quarantine at this point in the game, when things are meant to be edging back to normality. Doesn’t bode well for future travel arrangements next year either.

True. but implementing such a high fine...
Well, we can say it is the law, but seriously?!

I’ll wait till end of June to read first reports on how things are looking in real life.
If there will be restrictions in tavernas, then I’ll pass.
Vic, we can meet in Croatia:)
@alex
Not lightly :) Alex reading all the going on there plus having many many years dealing with Greek coast guard , it's nothing but a mine field at the moment , can't help feeling sorry for them guys there .

Luckily we in Sicily where at less you can have a joke with the CG .
We free to sail within our region .
The problem with Greece like almost every where else the rules are not clear when it come to private boats , the rules are written and left to local CG ,
The internet not helping with people posting stuff mostly hear say .
What I found here in Sicily they too don't under stand the rules then so to play safe your told you can't sail.

Our rules one before last said sailing allowed but you had to be a member of a sailing organisation or sailing club , which nearly had me running to Chris Robb to ask for a discount to join the CA , until after a hour meeting with the local CG top guy who ended up say he didn't know if a organisation out side Italy would apply , sorry Chris :) .
But the more you read the rules the more it came clear your on sticky ground if your stop , and if there any thing I learn in all the years cruising is the law does matter when it comes to having a argument with the guy that's stop you .

Our last ruling was much clearer but it took another meeting and them .
Even an email from the ministry of transport wasn't enough , They had to making three phone calls before before they agreed with me the rules did say we was ok to sail.
, how can we win .
We probably stay in Italy/ Sardinia this year until thing get better, that's if they do .

It goi

It's going to kill a lot of travel companies off .
We are becoming a bit of a laughing stock .

So, planning to be off out for a bit of a Sail this afternoon.
Just to be safe, I popped in to see the Coast Guard/Customs/Port Police guys near the fuel station (Gouvia Marina) and asked if all was ok for me to be out there, today.
Yep, no problem but they advised I got a letter from the Marina office, stating I have a mooring and that they know me etc etc. I told them I have a copy, on the boat, of my annual mooring contract. They said, good, good, but a letter would be better.
So, off I pops to the Marina office and asked for a 'Letter'
Therein started World War 3......
They went mad...!! Who do these guys think they are??, They shouldn't be asking for this.....If we do this for you, we'll have to do it for everyone.......etc etc etc.
Many phone calls later (to various Greek Authorities, (sorry don't know who exactly) out pops a signed letter!!
So, all we need now is a bit of wind!!

I rather suspect that what the marina means is; "we don't want to give you a letter because that makes us partly responsible for you being out and if the CG fine you they might try to fine us too!". It's pretty common in Greece that nobody in any kind of authority will make a decision in case it turns out to be wrong.....

thats gouvia marina office. the moment you step through the doors you are entering enemy territory.

it means you cant have more than 12 persons on board.

It is not logical because no private yacht has license for more than 12 persons.

At least today all the restaurants and cafe are full like old times.

Ok, got it now, about the 12 in a boat...all clear....
So, what did I say about wind?
Oh yeah, we got lots of it, Force 7...!!
So, we had a few beers on the boat, on the mooring...shall we go sailing?
Oh in passing, today, all the Bars open....
So, go on...guess what we did......
Yep, we went to the pub....
Maybe, we can go sailing tomorrow??

Just curious, those of you out sailing, is there more wild life around, more dolphins etc inshore?
Whether it's coincidence or not we've definitely encountered more dolphins and turtles than usual over the last few weeks and bloody jellyfish inshore including those nasty purple lads.

Interesting to see the report from Corfu, re going out for a sail. This is the response I received on Monday from the gentleman who owns the yard where I haul out in Northern Greece.
Presumably it's a different scenario if you are already in country.

"Stay put for the time been, nothing is certain yet about yachting and ways of dealing with the visitors in Greece."

Since Monday 25/5 private sailing in Greece is permitted without any restrictions (except for max 12 persons on board).

Getting into the country is a different story altogether.
