Coronavirus and Greece

I didn't feel any aggression so I can't see what the fuss is about. If someone hears first or secondhand any news, does this mean one has to be scrutinised and/or present proof of who said it, data protection springs to mind.
We are all grown ups and can make our own minds up on the content of any topic or thread. On the content of the post, who cares, no me. I speed read through it and move on.
OK a new thread may have been a better and wiser choice but I do think that everyone has been guilty of hijacking or veering off on a subject . . . . unintentionally of course.
As for how popular this or any other site is, this is the only one I follow and always have, so keep posting. Even though we are no longer liveaboards and have now bought a house in Greece, we still own a yacht and sail in Greece, this is the site I most associate with even though often it does come across as a private club . . . . . . .

So true and the saddest thing, many with really useful information refuse to partake in the arguments and the challenges to prove their point of view.

Often hard evidence is just not available but an opinion is far better than nothing and can generate a more informed response.

Well said, and yes it is sad. Many a time I come on and just can't be arsed with having a battle with the "private club" Boy how things have changed from the informative years where there were really great people on here with experience, intellect and patience to discuss.
People need to screw their necks in and realise we all have a point of view and there is definitely no need at all to belittle a formunite for having his or her point of view.

Following on your response I will get around to a new thread later so then we can test opinion within this forum but I would add that despite what some may think (unlike The Solent ) these forums are not the center of the boating universe so there are plenty of discussions outside these cloistered columns.

What aggression? I'm simply asking for some evidence to support your contention. If you don't have any evidence just say so. As regards not liking what I hear it's not something that particularly concerns me or affects me.

On the weekend it will be the hottest may temperature since 50 years (over 40oC). all the beaches will be open. one tv journalist had to leave an athens beach because people were throwing stones at her during her broadcast.

Extension of restrictions of travel connections with Turkey and the United Kingdom until midnight 31/05/2020 (Government Gazette 1849B / 14-5-20)

The Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy clarifies that road connections (but not ferry) are open for Evia from Monday, May 18, 2020

The interesting part of the above is :

B) Procedures for the mooring of pleasure boats coming from abroad after the lifting of the restrictive measures against the COVID-19. pandemic. The instructions will be applicable from 15.05.2020 to 15.06.2020 and mainly concern:

1. The possibility of entering ports, marinas and shipyards of mainland Greece of private yachts and commercial yachts (not cruise ships) coming from abroad if they are without passengers and under certain health conditions and with the permission of the competent authority.
2. Continuation of the ban on shipping by foreign states for which special restrictive measures are still in force (eg Turkey).
3. Mandatory control (test) of all crews and occupants, in a certified laboratory (at the expense of the occupants).
4. Implementation of the National Health Organization's guidelines on long-distance ferry vessels in ports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
5. The submission of a maritime health declaration.
6. Provide information to passengers on the rules and regulations for COVID-19 applicable to the port of use.
7. The management of a suspicious or confirmed incident on board

Also the new NOTAMS

In order to protect passengers and citizens from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announces the following air instructions (5 new Notams in total):

• The suspension of all passenger flights to and from Greece to Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands will be extended until 31 May 2020 at 23:59.
• The temporary ban on flights to and from Albania and Skopje is extended until June 14, 2020 at 23:59.
• The ban on all flights to the Greek Territory regarding Turkey is extended until June 14, 2020 at 23:59.
• Only at the Athens airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (DAA), arrivals / departures of international flights are allowed. The specific aviation directive is valid until May 31, 2020 at 23:59.
• The temporary ban on entry into the country of non-European citizens remains in force until 31 May 2020 at 23:59

So, as for us that are chomping at the bit, here in Greece to get some Sailing done, here's some news from the Development Deputy Minister Nikos Papahanasis

According to the plan, gymnasiums will open on 29 June and Mr. Papathanasis said that travel to the islands will be allowed from 25 May and all private boats will also be freed of restrictions on the same date.

Hope it happens......

So do we hope it happens but nobody will be out sailing until 1st June because of the cruising tax

yes that is correct it is until June 15 in accordance with EU recommendations.

The same circles stressed that the lifting of the restrictive measures in place to combat the pandemic continues, always taking into account the epidemiological data and the opinion of experts and adhering to all measures to protect public health, so that gradually but steadily to let's go back to a new everyday life.

These maybe from countries other than Spain, Italy, North Macedonia, Albania, UK and Turkey, which are currently not accepted. Non EU citizens are also not accepted until after 15th June.
The arriving yacht must have just crew onboard and have, before arrival, organized specifically with a shipyard for the work to be carried out.
We await further news on permission for foreign yachts to enter Greece.

That's what I was afraid of - being in Italy, we're now stamped as "from plague country - do not let in". While our friends who wintered in Montenegro could haul out in Greece (something we had planned to do sometime soon)
