Coronavirus and Greece

At the risk of being told to stay the foxtrot away does anyone have any idea when boats from Turkey might be allowed entry to the islands. We're planning a trip south along the Turkish coast in June probably as far as Kas and the original plan was to cross to Rhodes and island hop on the Greek side back to Samos.

Keeping option open , it's a answer I looking for too .

As I understand the rulings from different parts of media . . . . . At the moment, for entry to Greece there is a specified list of countries, and Turkey isn't one of them I'm afraid.
The date of May 25th is just for domestic movements. The ruling that has been agreed in theory* today is for all the EU countries to open their borders on June 15th. I sincerely hope so as we will be planning to leave the UK on June 19th
I suspect that the Greek government won't be to quick to allow travel from Turkey given the present political climate, unless there is something in it for the Greeks.

(*there are some EU countries that are not in compliance just yet, so please don't shoot the messenger)

The current political climate is no different to what it always is and +/- 10% has been much the same for the last 100 years. Tourism from Turkey by ferry, day boat trips and private yachts is an important source of income for the Aegean Islands especially Lesbos, Chios, Samos and Kos so, if the islands are open to other nationalities, I'd be hopeful we might be included. It's not clear yet when Turkey will open up for international travelers but I'd expect some clear news before the end of May after Eid. I'd imagine Greece will be on our Green list and reciprocity is always a big deal in these understandings so here's hoping. If not, I still have a lot of Turkish coast to get to know better.

The first list of corridor countries allowed into Greece does not include the UK. I suspect we will be added soon - as we are talking to the French over allowing them not to quantanteen for airflights in to the UK....

I've never been envious . . . . . .but as in the quote "Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics" I'll take solace and worry for the brainwashed;)
More than happy for you to doubt the numbers and think us a hotbed of infection. I'm really enjoying the near empty seas, the deserted beaches and the quiet at night. You know, forget what I said earlier, we're having it really bad here, for your own safety please stay away.... :p

Possibly this should be a new thread but Liveaboard Link has become largely a ghost town.

Apart from the odd boat or property owner, for a number of reasons, I think it most unlikely there will be very much overseas holiday trade this summer.

Holiday resorts (countries) may offer all sorts of inducements but 2020 will be the stay at home year and depending how the virus develops, this could be a growing trend for years to come. Lack of money could be another major factor; food on the table comes well before the holiday overseas‼️

Turning to the overseas Liveaboard community, a significant number are hoping to terminate the adventure and return to their country of origin.

Additionally, I have heard that because of it’s location and success in controlling the spread of the virus some are thinking of relocating to Portugal.

Because of Portugal’s benign attitude to Brexit and the British relocating in Portuga, Portugal is particularly attractive to UK longterm cruisers and boating expats. This could become a lifeline to The Algarve marinas and the leisure marine industry in general.

Only time will tell.

After five and a half months on board last summer I for one can’t wait to get back to the Ionian, most of last summer was spent getting the boat up together after 3 years of neglect before we bought her and the thought of starting again does not appeal much!

We currently have flights booked for end of June to Preveza and will stay as long as my unpaid leave allows, Even August in the Ionian appeals, although it might seem a bit strange without so many Italians to liven the place up.........

Like many things in this game there is no hard evidence until after the event.

It is coming from conversations and inquiries across the boating fraternity; much of it outside the confines of these forums.
So you've been having these conversations with significant numbers of the international Liveaboard community. I appreciate the confidentiality of such communications but maybe you could tell us how many you've spoken to and what proportion are heading home for good.

I have been planning to travel to Greece - east coast - in September in the Motor Home. Its 2000 miles and the route goes Munich, Vienna, Budapest, slovenia, Republic of Macedonia - so that should be fun in itself. 'er indoors will need to be presurised as 4 weeks away from home is normally the max - but exceptional times!
Dodge ,Republic of Macedonia unless you have a spare €100 on both borders ,

Why so aggressive❓ Don't you like what your are hearing❓

As I said at the top of # 249 possibly this should be in a new thread.

Following on your response I will get around to a new thread later so then we can test opinion within this forum but I would add that despite what some may think (unlike The Solent :sneaky:) these forums are not the center of the boating universe so there are plenty of discussions outside these cloistered columns.

Do you find the need to change their format also?

I didn't feel any aggression so I can't see what the fuss is about. If someone hears first or secondhand any news, does this mean one has to be scrutinised and/or present proof of who said it, data protection springs to mind.
We are all grown ups and can make our own minds up on the content of any topic or thread. On the content of the post, who cares, no me. I speed read through it and move on.
OK a new thread may have been a better and wiser choice but I do think that everyone has been guilty of hijacking or veering off on a subject . . . . unintentionally of course.
As for how popular this or any other site is, this is the only one I follow and always have, so keep posting. Even though we are no longer liveaboards and have now bought a house in Greece, we still own a yacht and sail in Greece, this is the site I most associate with even though often it does come across as a private club . . . . . . .
Oooops should I have started a new thread;):)
