copperbottom anti-fouling

i am buying a new arvor and was thinking of using copperbottom ( THINK THATS ITS NAME) NHAS ANY BODY USED THIS .
I HAVE TRIED EVERY ANTIFOUL FROM £70 A TIN TO £25 AND TO BE HONEST AFTER 6 MONTHS THEY ALL SEAM TO GIVE UP.

Used it for 10 years after which it seemed to give up. It's OK but still needs a 6 monthly scrub to remove the slime. Makes a good substrate for erodable antifouling!

3 flavours...

copperbot, coppercoat or copperguard. first two basically the same, last is a copper-nickel alloy. these are very particular abour application, temperature, surface preparation and overcoating time. despite my best efforts i have top coat peeling off first coat and first coat peeling off hull. also degree of fouling protection is basic, in the caribbean i had to dive down to scrape every few weeks. works ok in colder waters apart from some slime growth.

hi a guy who takes his boat out for winnter in the same shipyard as me in greece had his russler copperbot from new and put his first antifoul on last season after 7 years he said it was well worth it

Friend of mine used this stuff a few years ago and he was not very impressed. The anti-fouling properties were not as good as a good anti-fouling paint and once it has dried, and then again at at least 12 month intervals (6 months better) you have to lightly abrade the surface to expose fresh copper. This takes almost as long as it does to apply fresh paint.
