a little request to the ybw minders...

it's understandable that you try to maximize on your income by subcontracting the ybw website as a trojan horse for other popups once in a while (or most of the time), nothing illegal there, people just have to put up with the nuisance.

but it's not very friendly or fair if these trojan horses bring their own cookies and little spies which might lead to lots of spam spam spam ... so who is responsible here ? at the end of the day I clicked ybw.com , not today's trojan horse named Accucard which brought these cookies along :

-doubleclick : Is a banner advertising company. They have been accused of Profiling. They monitor personal information like phone numbers, addresses and other 'Personally-identifiable' records. http://doubleclick.com

-edge.4ru : Spyware cookie. Tracks your personal information and browsing habits, as you surf the web. Information can be retrieved by the parent company.

true that you can disable a lot through your browser settings, but it's a pain nevertheless as you do need to enable those settings sometimes for other -genuine and reliable - stuff.....

so would it not be appropriate if the ybw minders check their terms & conditions when making contracts with popup addy's ?

I wonder if Accucard or Lloyds TSB would allow a ybw.com pop up/under on their internet sites? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

if you install the google toolbar it will block popups but lets you allow them temporarily or for trusted sites.

firefox also blocks them but needs caution as it has a fair few bugs.

Roger,

Apologies it was us - a piece of pop-up code was instigated on the site and it was rolled out onto the forums by mistake. It was capped at one appearance per user per day but capping relies on cookies and anyone with third party cookies disabled would have got bombarded...that's the fault of Accucard's ad supplier but we've solved it now by stripping it off of the forums.

Use your browser to block 3rd party cookies and pop-ups (may need a toolbar to help this one!). I even have FF block graphics from 3rd party sites. It can be a pain at times but for me it is worth it.
There are a few sites that do require cookies and popups - it is easy enough to add them to your exception list if you trust them.....

Not necessarily...

...'dictionary' attacks are quite common too where they simply second guess email accounts - fortunately my somewhat complicated name seems to keep most of my addresses free of that but I gave up Hotmail eons ago for that reason (had an anon address that was far too simple for my own good).

No BS

There are times when it's simply easier to hold up hands and say there was a cock-up. This particular pull in from an outfit called utarget got implemented when some of us were looking elsewhere...it's been canned across the whole site -- apologies to all.
