Contributor status

So - if you want to prove popular and be recognised as such - agree with everything, reinforce the posts of others - do not be contentious.

To curry favour I now need to agree that anchors are complete waste of time and hold is exclusively attributable;e to the chain. I'm sure you don't need me to quote other examples.

Well, I'd never noticed there was a like button. Content is surely more important ?
A music teacher for many years, I am still considered a 'newbie' on one music teacher's forum, joined in 2006 and posted 49 ( helpful ) times LOL

Of course content is the most important, it's what this and other forums are about. But everyone wants to be liked.

I'm overwhelmed by my new status.
Congratulations but please remember that your elevated status comes with some additional responsibilities like
- not starting a new thread on a subject which is already being discussed especially when it involves hijacking one of my threads, and
- posting your shit on the correct forum.
;)

I've noticed that members of this forum are given different statuses. I'm an 'active member' but there are also 'new members' and many more. Is there a list somewhere of what the different ones mean?
When you posted that, you were well known.

Most of its users are definitely ‘pre-computer old’ ?
To be "pre-computer", you'd have to have been born before 1941 - that is, over 80. The Zuse 3 (not widely known outside Germany) was built in 1941. To be older than the CONCEPT, you'd have to have been born before 1840, when Babbage designed and attempted to build his analytical engine, which would probably have worked if Babbage had been more focussed and less liable to change designs. A modern replica works, and was built to 19th century tolerances.

On the theoretical side, Alan Turing's paper describing the theoretical basis of present day computers was published in 1936. Ada Lovelace published the first computer program in 1843!

When it comes to quantity (as opposed to quality) PVB is miles ahead anyone else posting!! As of an hour ago his message count was 37,752 (and climbing)

In contrast Jumbleduck 19983, ghostlymoron 9,076, rotrax 8,849, Wansworth 13,528, Neeves 5,823

If becoming a "Well Known Member" only requires 1000 posts, how come that I am only an active member despite having over 21,000 posts? Is it in fact based on posts made since the forums moved to the new format?

I think they only count "quality" posts. (Obviously most of yours don't qualify.) That would be right wouldn't it? ? ?

Did you see comment #2. Hypixel has the same category for members and it depends on how many trophy points(?) you get. But like you I am bewildered.........

One reason for my post count is that I've kept the same username for ever on these forums, rather than changing names as some do.

As for quality/quantity, perhaps if you posted sound information instead of random Google links, you might attract some of the many messages of thanks which flow my way.
