Watch out for containers, Solent skippers! Reported to the coastguard, near to the Nab tower. Story in the IoW County Press, reported yesterday here

It doesn't say whether any of them are floating, or if they have sunk.

EDIT: A later report from a member of the Westerly Owners group on Facebook says:
15 in number, 20 foot shipping containers broken free and adrift near the Nab Tower in the Solent. semi submerged and in groups of three. May well drift towards Selsey area with current wind and tide.

Mariners advised to maintain a good look out and transit area with caution.

Portsmouth VTS CH 11 Southampton VTS CH 12 and Coast Guard issuing updates.

Why have they fallen off a vessel ? It's not like they were in Biscay. For a big ship those waters would be fairly sheltered from the prevailing winds ?

Seems unlikely to me too but assuming the story is accurate: Sharp turn?

Some are carrying bananas.

According to the article, anything washed ashore must be reported to the receiver of wrecks within 28 days.

So simply swallow the evidence......

Bananas washing ashore in Selsey will completely baffle the locals. They're used to gathering sea weed to roof their huts, foraging the tide line for shell fish for food or hoping to capture some poor traveller who has strayed South of the A259/A27 and looks plump enough for the cooking pot.. :ROFLMAO:

Apparently even the p&O has deferred the attractions of Funchal in exchange for another night in Soton - I haven’t heard of any Wightlink delays but it’s a good one to add to their repertoire of delay factors.
