Don\'t Panic!!

David,

Don't go panicking, I was just getting over the hangover caused by the lovely ladies of Iberia giving me lots of whisky to pass the time as we flew over the Sahara to Madrid. Mobile rang and nice man from MBM Forum said that you had lost my number, I've PM'd you with it.

On arriving Madrid, went to collect electronic ticket from BA desk and the flight to LGW which allows a nice easy stroll to the Manchester flight had been cancelled. Had to be transferred to LHR flight which means a sprint through terminal 1 to just get the 1835 shuttle to Manchester. BA's party piece was that as my flight had been cancelled they could not print my electronic tickets to re-route me. Because of that my baggage could not be re-routed either and just got diverted to Heathrow and no further.

After 5 weeks in Malabo getting home became the priority rather than chasing bag, which will arrive eventually. Quickly filled lost bag form at Manchester, just made the 2015 train to Parbold/Southport and got lift home from friend. As I was walking up the path to house, congratulating myself on smooth journey, in gentle drizzle, I suddenly thought "Aahhh! Keys". Of course, house keys are in jacket pocket in bag on carousel at Heathrow!

Now have teeny weeny problem, neighbours in cottage next door are away with children on half term. Neighbour across road who has my spare keys is out for evening. I try his mobile, stroll across road in gentle drizzle and can hear his mobile ringing in the kitchen. Stroll back home again and now drizzle has dampened and cooled T-shirt clad body (jacket in bag on carousel at Heathrow) to edge of hypothermia just start wondering if only solution is to walk into the village to the pub and drink more alcohol whilst re-assessing strategy.

Just before arriving at local with laptop over one shoulder and duty free carrier in other hand neighbour with key drives past stops and says "Ee lad you're all wet, what you doing walking to pub in't rain with T shirt, must be daft?"

So, finally at 2200, wet through and delighted by neighbours instant character assessment, I get into house.

BA baggage girl so helpful today, told me she would get courier to call me when they had bag. Asked her to get courier to ring mobile, says not a problem. Come back into house at 1600, courier left message at 1500 (on house phone) to say he has bag, please call back on 08702 404 202 to arrange delivery.
After trying for an hour get frustrated because they will not answer their phone. Call another charming lady at BA explain frustration who asks me to hold whilst she calls couriers, after 15 minutes she tells me they will not answer her either. Says she will fax and ask them to call my mobile. That was at 1615 now 2000, still no response from from courier who is also still not taking calls.

So, whilst BA have been really helpful I wonder why they use Cygnus C*uri*rs who appear to be total prats? It's hard to be the worlds favourite airline when you have help like that.

Whilst on the subject of favourite airlines, could the reason that the Madrid-Gatwick flight has been cancelled three times in a week and all the passengers squeezed onto the Heathrow flight which leaves minutes later have anything to do with "Commercial considerations (all the passengers will fit into one aircraft and halve the costs)" rather than "Technical Problems" if BA's aircraft are really that unreliable should we risk flying in them?

At the end of the day it is still nice having a job in the sun, even if I do have the trauma of the monthly commute......;-))

Hi Colin,

I thought I was just shivering in the rain because I was cold, cerebral malaria, now there's a thought........You've just reminded me I've not taken my Doxycycline in two days 'cos I've still no bag.

I'm working for MEGI on the AK, but employed by the big red.

Accommodation still poor, but at least it's warmer than the North Sea and I don't have to go through ABZ every 3weeks, so there are two good points already.

It was el Presidente's Birthday on Monday, all the expat companies had to give him a 500,000 CFA "Birthday Present". Sounds like a good job to me, any good at arranging coups?
