I think the matter is a plus for an ais transponder
I do not transmit local trips but i do, for instance , on my current round uk trip
My wife has logged me with marine traffic & it even emailed her the minute i docked in dover
This was good as the original intention was boulogne. It saves loads of hassle notifying of change of passage plan etc
Dover port control wanted to know my intentions & just called me up to ask as i was near their harbour
