Re: Where we are at as of Monday 29 July

You've every right to be hacked off and my comment was inappropriate - sorry.

However I don't have much sympathy. IPC promote Compass and when they fail to perform, which will inevitably happen, those aggrieved will air their complaint here. IPC have a vicarious responsibility even though they have no control over the company. It corrodes confidence, very rapidly.

Re: Vicarious responsibility

Sorry matey, think that it is the other way round. IPC's responsibilities are for their own customers and not for Compass's customers. Which is why, IMHO, ptk was completely out of order voicing (whingeing) his concerns/complaints and expecting IPC to sort them out when he appears to have bought direct from Compass.

The fact that IPC have helped and not exercised editorial control is of great credit to them.

Having followed this thread without comment - up to now- I'm going to throw in my tupence worth:

1. I find it hard to credit ( no pun intended) that two seperate postings of a credit note have gone astray- if it did happen, then send out a third one and make everyone happy.

2. Kim is obviously doing his best to sort this out and without much thanks.

3. What is Compass's stance? Why are they so quiet? Surely they should have an
interest in defending their position or are they just leaving it to Kim? and if they are, why? This bad publicity must be damaging - I can't see any justification
in ignoring this matter- certainly would make me think twice before purchasing from them. It's not the £40 quid!!

4. Final point - let Compass post a copy of the credit note to Kim who in turn posts it to on to the complainant - end of story.

Duke.

A major reason you won't see Compass on here is because they did appear on SB some time back to answer some criticisms. Unfortunately they did so by quoting a few prices and that looked as though they were plugging product (bad move and I was a bit slow off the mark editing out). Net result they got so badly flamed they were toast of the kind the knife puts a hole in when you scrape.

At the time some forum users were suggesting that marine trade really had no part to play here and on the other side of the fence there is a theory that does the rounds with some companies that they are better to look and learn but stay silent and run deep.

Personally I like the debate to be as broad as possible, because everyone has a view and it is always best to hear both sides perhaps?

Re: Vicarious responsibility

My last words on the subject (and forum).
Firstly, as far as I am aware I placed the order through the YBW portal. Secondly, I didn't actually ask anyone from IPC to get involved, I posted a reply to someone who hadn't had their free knife and it snowballed from there. Thirdly, if you didn't like the website don't go back. I've not had time to update it recently but I don't need to excuse myself to you.

Thanks to Kim for his efforts, vain though they were. I e-mailed an order to compass and got a very nice e-mail back saying that item was out of stock. No-one can be that unlucky so that's me out of here. Thanks to those who gave there support and bollocks to those who didn't.

Regards,

Peter

Re: tit for tat

There is obviously a difference of opinion as to where you placed the order, my comments were made on the basis, as stated previously, that you ordered direct from Compass.

The comments about your site were in response to your unwarranted personal attack on other folk. Having had the offer to visit who could resist, don't worry I won't be going back.

I do not normally like to get personal, but often suspect that those that give it out can't take it, this proved to be the point in case here.

I suspect that you are learning, and I note that you are still with us, which is a good thing (honestly).

Re: Vicarious responsibility

Was that last statement really neccessary, just because some people actually had the audacity to disagree with you?

Please Lock this now....

Kim,

Think this thread has gone on far enough.. i get the impression that if you had turned round and given the chap the winning lottery numebrs he would complain it wasn't a rollover.

IMHO of course.

Can't see this getting any better... therefore may as well lock it... it will gradually fall off the bottom of the page and be forgotten about.

At the end of the day, the only guys that really knew what happened are the buyer and the seller. One airs his views all to liberally and the other will get blasted if he even tries... as has happenend in the past

Can it now... before it becomes the longest and most un productive thread in history!

FWIW, IMHO and without prejudice of course!

Craig.

I disagree, leave it running, its been good to watch and now that ptk has said he wont be posting anymore (for the second time) its likely to die soon in anycase.

For what its worth, I have used Compass twice now, first time was a 100 quid item 15 quid less than elsewhere, came with an extra bag to put it in free and a free keyring, so I was chuffed, service from white arrow was poor though. Second order winging its was to me as we speak, but was a competitive price and I made a mess of ordering on line cos the lovely Karla from the other office came to see me and I could not concentrate, so i foned compass and said Iam a wally and Iwant two please not just one and they said fine, we'll sort it.

So I reckon, or in my case at least, compass are ok!!!

I am gonna spend it on wine, women and song, and blow the rest.........
