Probably venturing out of Windsor Saturday and Sunday as long as the tide is OK. (Are we on Springs or Neaps?) Don't know which way yet. Depends on SWMBO and where she wants to shop rather than where I want to drink. Things I do for a quiet life!

PLEASE READ..........

Mike Gates at MDL Windsor/Bray has been in touch with me and is offering to host a mobochat gathering at Bray this weekend if enough interest including flat £10per boat for overnight stay plus 10% off fuel and he'll throw in a crate of beer !
This sounds rather excellent but wonder how many could get involved at this short notice and whether taking up kind offer on another weekend might be better?
Responses here please and quickly !

Also he tells me there is big charity boat race on this Saturday...

Also you may be interested to know there is a charity boat fight on the river this Saturday. Here is the itinerary.

Saturday 28th June 2003

09:30am Meet at the slipway at Windsor Marina. Prepare and launch boats.

10am All boats launched and commence Navigation. Turn right out of Marina and head downstream.

12:00 Arrive outside the Donkey House pub. (100yds downstream of Windsor Bridge). Fight sea battle. Sink Boat. Refloat boat. Tie up. Then have lunch.

14:00 Depart again. Continue Navigation through Romney Lock, then Old Windsor Lock.

16:30 app Recover boats at Wraysbury Boat House, Old Windsor.

The aim of the challenge is to navigate the vessels along a 6.5 mile, 3 lock section of the Thames in the Windsor area. At lunchtime (app 12:00 - 12:30pm outside the Donkey House, a pleasant riverside pub, 100yds downstream of Windsor Bridge) the Endeavour and Mary Rose will engage in a short battle (subject to prior permissions). The crews will have lunch together (to prove there are no hard feelings) and then continue the navigation to Wraysbury where the boats will be recovered from the water.

All the best

Hi, nice offer from MIke.

If you're at Windsor it's a bit of a push from Harleyford to do there and back in a day, can only do Sunday, SWMBO has to work Saturday - NHS !!!!!

So if you are in the Bray area could do.

Re: PLEASE READ..........

Now why did this sort of thing never happen when I was on the Thames!

Would love to come along, but have things already lined up on South Coast this weekend

Re: PLEASE READ..........

Sounds to me like we DO need to organise another! OK - let me get the ball rolling... how's about the weekend of 6/7th July... failing that - the weekend of 20th/21st - now surely that's enough notice!

According to Bill Giles (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/30day.shtml>http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/30day.shtml</A>) we should have the weather with us both weekends

Congregating at MDL in Bray - if Mike can extend his kind offer...

Re: PLEASE READ..........

I shall be setting off upriver on the w/e of 12/13July on our annual 2 weeks to Oxford and back (or however far we get b4 its time to turn round). So, for me the w/e of 6/7 July is a bit premature and we will be well upstream for the 19/20th.

I personally think this coming w/e is a bit short notice for a good turnout and wonder if sometime in late August or early September wouldnt allow for a more planned and better attended event. Byrons efforts to host a rally on the 12/13 July also hasnt attracted any real response.

Re: PLEASE READ..........

I don't know about others, but still rather short notice, with events and things into August at the moment...boat fixing/transducer testing/meeting friends weekend, Cherbourg, Byrons Bash (possibly, see previous), another forum's bash at my house, Pathfinder round the Island etc etc

Can't get my boat to the Thames easily though, so not a priority for me at the moment, so I'm not the one that should stop this happening this weekend or on the dates you mentioned

Re: PLEASE READ..........

Why not we just get together for Sunday lunch/afternoon - somewhere around Runnymede?

Seems to be a consensus that we can all get to Old Windsor / Romney locks or thereabouts?

Where's there a good Pub in that reach?

PS Brendan - not MANDATORY that u bring a boat! :)

Re: PLEASE READ..........

Early September would be better for us as the boat will be back on the Thames again by then.

Enjoying my mooring swap with Chatham at the moment, will be back in Bray after 26/8.

Re: PLEASE READ..........

I have spoken with Mike Gates this morning and agreed that this w/e is too short notice to arrange anything of substance.
Mike is keen to see us have a get-together at Bray and will be posting an invite for a weekend in September as a seperate thread and hopefully that will be better supported.
