coming at Aldi... thursday

that battery charger has automatic voltage sensing 6v or 12v which is problematic if you try to charge a flat 12v battery. The charger thinks it's 6v and charges accordingly (i.e. doesn't charge)

if your 12v battery is reading 6v then there aint a charger in the world going to revive it. ought below 12v is dodgy.

had a battery with only 8v left, charging with that charger failed. Another charger without voltage sensing revived it...

Are you quite sure about that? - just asking as it has been done for years in the "trade" - do you have access to information that is not available to the trade?

It does look good, the Bluetooth bypasses the need for an FM modulator, such as the iTrip.

I wonder if it has a MUTE or ATTENUATE input. Anybody know?

Certainly not me,I am trying to get to grip with the general features. What do they all mean?

"iPhone/iPod connection through Aux In or wireless streaming
AM/FM stereo with 30 presets and FM RDS control
Flip-down detachable fascia with multicolour LCD display
USB flash disk and SD card support
Front Aux input
MP3 ID3 tag display
Built-in ISO socket
High Power 4 x 40 Watts max.
Includes: gold-tipped auxiliary input wire, fascia carrying case
Red panel light illumination."

What does USB flash disk and SD card support mean,Is that just the instruction manual on that format?
MP3 ID3 tag display?
Built-in ISO socket, what do you use that for?
That wireless streaming business & IPod/MP3 stuff;does that mean it has some kind of hard drive that you can download your favourite tracks onto?

As you may guess I am not one of the younger generation :D

Good bit of kit, no long wave for shipping forecasts or the Cricket.

I have always been perfectly happy with local radio forecasts on fm & about the last thing I am interested in is cricket while away sailing (or even at home during the normal course of events come to that) so that ai'nt a problem for me.Probably just turning the thing on will be :D

You can plug in a USB disk or SD card with music on it
It shows MP3 track names etc.
It has a standardised multiway ISO connector for power and speakers etc.
You can play an iPod via a wireless Bluetooth connection, no need for a lead.

Thanks for that Nige'.It sounds like I better find out what an IPod & MP3 tracks are....... just a thought;if you can play an IPod & do that stuff wirelessly could you also use a laptop or one of those IPad things?

I have written all my CDs to MP3 files on disks. At home my CDs are housed in a fairly large cupboard. On the boat the whole lot is on 25 disks in a small case. I have a second set that lives in the motorhome. A cheap and convenient way of having all my music where I am.

I recently bought a new Sony radio/CD player with full facilities from the discontinued shelf at Argos. Electronic kit like this goes out of fashion very quickly but is perfectly good for the boat. Mine was less than £50.

I started to write my CDs to MP3 files, I had also invested in minidiscs, great little things which worked far better than cassettes. However, with my 160Gb Ipod classic, I have over 20100 songs at my beck and call, once I install one of the collection of old Sony stereos which have the aux socket on the front I will have more music than I can shake a stick at! (Not sure why I would want to shake a stick at it though, is it something to do with Morris dancing?). P.S. (Never had a Morris either! or seen one dance!).
All this depends on getting my alternator to alternate again, last time I visited the boat my currents wilted and the battery stopped taking a charge at 12.2 volts. Methinks all is not well.
