Yes I agree, fill in your details. I have and I now even have a nice piccie of myself as an avatar.
Haven't given my boat name though, was a waste of time as some dickheads reckoned I didn't have one, so comply to satisfy their fantasies.
Anyway, my slave agrees with those who have concerns about security issues as found there are people around who are inclined to throw bricks through your windows if they decide they don't like you. So, here I am, he has thrown me to the catnappers instead.
Re: Come on guys & girls...fill-in your details!
Hi Jimi,
If you want to post something again and avouid being treathened, I post it for you.
I have been treathened by the CIA and FBI for an article I published in the Russian Pravda. I told them to F..k off. I do these things under my own name. So if t helps..... I shall do it. see water maker post.
But it is true what Brendans says, I was amazed that people in Finland referred to some experiments I did in Southern Africa.
Someone playing at spoofing addresses? Can think of two possibilities.........

Good fun too. Soupdragon errrrr.. bluedragon now goes into the hall of fame. Somewhere I compiled a list of the longest threads, but can't seem to find it now.
See the hall of fame post I've added. You are now up there with the biggest bandwith wasters. Quite an honour, as I know most of them, and they quite genuinely waste more bandwith than most lesser posters put together.
Seriously though, good thread. It's been mentioned many times before, and discussed in some depth, but it must be due to this being off season, it brought out many more responses than before - or maybe because usually the thread kicks off in Scuttlebutt rather than PBO, so more people there have seen it before, and have already considered it. Who knows, but it's fun when we get a few of these tonner threads going.
Re: Come on guys & girls...fill-in your details!
Many thanks Ongolo.. however If I say something of that naure I'd rather do it myself .. just wish circumstances had been different last year in which case I really would have taken them on .. still retained the correspondence .. might publish it in due course as an object lesson on how to really piss off an already aggreived client.
Re: Come on guys & girls...fill-in your details!
Andy interesting what you post about security but why would anyone want to steam my identity and if they did what harm would it really do?
My bank has very serious security to access the accounts on line - the questions are impossible to know and the letters/numbers random and and I doubt it is seriously crackable. - in any case I am not rich.
If someone fraudulently set up accounts - ran up debts in my name (and address) I cannot for a moment believe I would be liable.
I am not totally naive - got an EBay mail yesteday leading me to an eBay site that asked for my credit card details!!!!! I have won the lottery 273 times in the last month as well and decided not to help lots of people out of Africa.
There will always be folks trying to roll you but normally you need to be giving them a little positive help. I really do not see that home address, boat names, telephone numbers - date of birth is really going to endanger your health or bank balance - may be I am wrong?
Re: Come on guys & girls...fill-in your details!
Re: Identity theft - I don't think people want to steal your or my identity, just any identity. Equally, I don't think that posting some info in your profile here is a particular threat. However circumstances have made me very wary:
1) £2000 withdrawn in a foreign country from my current account as two "over the counter" cash advances on a card that I have *never* used, except in a cash-point. Bank very understanding, but required to set up overdraft facility with associated charges, etc for the duration of their investigations.
2) £1500 withdrawn in UK "over the counter" after theft of wallet - 2 separate accounts, CCTV footage. Took months to get refund, same overdraft problems as before. very much less than certain that banks would pay-up, argument over refunding charges.
3) Banks now telephone when you request your PIN, as so many were being requested using your ID, then "intercepted" before arriving through the post ("Could I just check the first line of your address.....?")
4) Chip & PIN places the burden of proof of identity to you, rather than retailer
5) Knowlege of local "character" who sifts through rubbish bags (I kid you not!) looking for card reciepts, etc. for their own use, and for sale to others. Persists to do so after several convictions & attachments to her benefit. Check how many 'chits' still have the full card number & expiry date on.
6) The amount of spyware I found on my PC, and I would consider myself knowlegable & careful.
While none of this is directly related to how much info you put into your profile here, it has opened my eyes to both the level of fraud that's perpetrated, and the lengths that people are prepared to go to. This in turn makes me think carefully before posting information on the 'net', as I believe the current situation is ripe for the picking by such characters.
It's everyone's own choice at the end of the day - There's a fair amount of info on me available already, I'm just trying not to add to it.
I don't lose any sleep!

Re: Come on guys & girls...fill-in your details!
I'm fairly ambivalent about it too, to be honest. The vast majority of people are quite ignorant of the basics though, which is what the light hearted digging of information on this thread has been about. I sleep well, knowing I'm 85% protected, but can spot quite quickly if the odd weak spot is being exploited.
Many people have no protection, and wouldn't know it they were being exploited until far too late. Chip and pin is a good way forward, handing over credit cards to restaurant employees is quite safe in most parts of the world, but was still a huge fraud loss for the card companies.
