Hi All
I am doing some additional research into 'hot' stamped hull numbers, 'all' Colvic Watsons Motor Sailers have a 4 digit hull number 'hot stamped' on the canoe stern typical as below, (however some may have been covered over with wood or rubber rubbing strakes if fitted).

3 months ago I also heard from an owner of a Colvic Northerner who also found a number on his flat stern and last week from a Colvic Seaworker owner.

The numbers do not run consecutively but were taken out as each order came in for a mould no matter what the design to be made by Colvic Craft, however from my database of the Colvic Watson Motor Sailers the hull number do identify the year of when the mould was manufactured (which is not the launch date).

The hull number can also be found on the Hull Moulders Certificate which was issued by Colvic Craft which might be found in your boats documentation.

I would be pleased to hear from any other boat/yacht owners of any other Colvic built boats who has found a number? it is always on the stern generally in the middle about 250/300mm down.

My Countess is HIN: 9278
Do you know what year that is as I haven't got a Hull Moulders Certificate.
I think it may be somewhere around 1984.

The highest Hull number we have for a Colvic Watson mould is 8913 and that was said to be manufactured in 1989 but without documented proof.

The highest number we have 'with documented proof' is 8219 and was moulded on 2/4/1981.

We also have 8387 moulded in 1985 verbally told to me by the boat builder.

Is you HIN number hot stamped on the stern? or elsewhere? what was your launch date of interest as most professionally finished boats took about 9 months to finish after the mould was delivered, where as semi professional built sometimes took years.

Hope this is of some help

Mike

I have hull number 6611 moulded in the same style as your photo, on the stb side of the stern.
The boat is a Colvic Sailer 26- I have no idea of her age, in fact that question was the subject of my first post on these fora!

Hull number 6611 indicates that the mould was made during 1980 by Colvic Craft.

covic sailer hull number

Hi
I am preparing a colvic bilge keel (25?) for the season.
The number in the hull ( port side of hull near join to deck) is 0470 (or may be 1471).
Is this sufficient to give a date of manufacture?
I suspect she was a home fitted boat.:o:ambivalence:
