Colregs question, nav lights

Well, he's not showing the right lights but .... I think he'd be given a pretty wide berth!

Can you imagine the inquest? .... "You didn't SEE it?"

None.

The logic behind the lighting section of COLREGS is that one can identify a type of craft when it is dark, judge its speed and direction of travel, BUT, most of all the lights are there to indicate your presence.

TOYOT's lighting shows her presence in no uncertain terms! In this respect she's not much different from a cruising liner; has anyone ever tried to make out the proper running lights amidst all those lights ablaze?

Yet we're left in no doubt as to the fact that there is a boat that is moving and that needs to be watched. We can determine the direction of travel and we can estimate the speed. In both cases we can 'Prevent A Collision At Sea' - which is what it is all about, no?

TOYOT is a little Westerly that is Mark Mattarella's love, pride, and joy. He used to run what was arguably one of, if not the best sites decicated to all that is Westerly. Pity that the big boys stepped in soon after the takeover, some years back, and threatened to take him to court for 'copyrught infringement', of all things!
