Hi Flamming,

I thought I could just put a post at the end of the old thread in case anyone reads it in the future.

Last week I saw the boat berthed 10 m away from me, I saw the name and suddenly remembered where from.

I couldnt stop myself from walking round the marina to get to it, I expected anchor bow roller damage.

I saw the paint Frigate GREY , I took the photo .

I then checked my thread photos to see where the damage would be and as you can see the paint is consistant with the impact.

It might not be the same Vela, even if it is the same vela and even if it is Frigate grey paint I still can not prove that the paint came from that day when I took the photos.

I guess no one will ever really know, except the crew on Vela but it is settled in my mind.

Cheers

Pete

Err yes. In circumstances too embarrassing to mention I once hit something hard, though not large, and stationary with the bow of a 34' yacht. The pulpit ended up resembling stainless steel spaghetti.

Well quite. That's very similar to my reasoning!

well doctor Holmes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Perhaps you would like to suggest how the grey paint got on the bow rail .......

The grey paint had to have got there from a collision even if it wasnt the frigate which sort of wrecks your argument unless following a collision the stainless rail was straightened leaving the grey paint on /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Intended as light humour, I would really like a conclusive outcome but we arnt going to get one.

Towed by Bembridge L/Boat - they ran aground - I couldn't stop ... reckon speed was about 2 - 3kts ... stuffed B L/B up the stern ... Pulpit was deformed seriously needing taking off and straightening. Stemhead fitting was beyond repair and a new one was made. (Boat was standard fitted out Snapdragon 23).

Who knows..! But if you were straigntening the rail, surely you'd take the extra minute to scrape the paint off!?
Which kinda blows yours theory out of the water! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Collisions take many forms, and there's plenty of grey painted stuff (lock gates, marina piles etc) around the solent that a busy charter boat (which Vela is) could scrape against.

Just find it odd that on what appears to be a high wind day a collision with a large ship would produce so little damage.

Indeed it was a windy day but remember that Vela was becalmed after the frigate stole her wind....

I am going to give up before we end up in another slanging match /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PM sent as to the location, in case you want to look or know anyone in the marina.

Further proof is that the Fractional manager would not confirm that there was not a collision.

Daka

You are absolutely right! The paint combined with the lack of other damage to Vela's pulpit is totally compatible with "a large 15m long deep scratch" in the frigates paintwork. The crowning proof that a bit of a manager wouldn't deny the incident is surely sufficient to convince the most die-hard sceptic.
With all this circumstantial and photographic evidence it is your duty to raise a CHIRP. I look forward to the report.

DAKA\'s Cold Case.

Yes, very important that a full report is made to the proper authorities.

I also think DAKA should get some surgical gloves and some small plastic envelopes (available at any airport) and take some samples for forensic analysis.

Can you post a picture that shows more of the 'Vela' in the marina in your photograph. You got a clear shot of it in the solent - maybe some feature will allow this boat to be ruled in or out.

I can't see any grey paint, can you post a clearer image?

I have a photo on my mobile phone of Vela which shows my boat behind and the marina it is in.
I have so far failed to send the photo to my email in order to display it here.

I am happy to send the photo to your mobile phone where you can post it here.

If anyone wants to go to this trouble please send me a pm with your mobile no.

I confirm it will not be used for marketing purposes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
