Cocks

[ QUOTE ]
Has anybody lost a boat because a hose fell off whilst the boat was left unattended??

Not personally but a mobo all but sank on a mooring here during the summer 'cos an engine cooling pipe corroded through and the seacock was open.

Provided there is no dange of sea water syphoning back when the boat is heeled I leave seacocks open at sea when I can keep a reasonably attentive eye on the level of bilge water then forget to turn them off on the mooring when a burst pipe could be disastrous; in short I seldom touch my seacocks except at the begining of teh season when I dismantle them and give them a good greasing.

PS: One of the advantages of moving to a whole-boat (aka raft) is that it won't sink however many cocks-up I make

But wouldn't you end up with one hull down and the other floating? Just wondering.

BTW, other than turning the seacocks every now and then they remain open all of the time.

You'd have to cut a bow clean off aft of the foam buoyancy and collision bulkheads (say 12ft back) and even then she'd float with a slight list - do you feel lucky punk?!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I've helped bail out a boat on it's mooring where a leak had developed in the engine cooling inlet. Took four of us 45 minutes. And you wouldn't believe how small the hole was. Funny how experience changes us.

It also keeps your seacocks moving, as mentioned above.
