If you are based at Cobbs Quay in Poole then you might be interested in the following new site. Not a new idea of course but having a station at CQ will hopefully prove of interest/benefit.

www.cobbsquayweather.co.uk

Regards

Paul

PS: In the text about the site it refers to the position of the anneometer - it will move to this location over the next week.

Very useful thanks, Paul.

Advertising rates seem reasonable as well, so hopefully some more local trade and event contacts coming on board.

Only a matter of time before we have the webcams looking out over the pontoons as well then /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It certainly disagrees with the similar Poole Harbour Weather site.....

Bit of a glitch with the refresh I think, initial readout agrees and then all zeroed. Apart from the wind heading difference which must be down to the difference in magnetic variation with Evening Hill /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Any chance of you locals organising a weather station where we visitors really want it - on Poole Bar buoy?

[/ QUOTE ]

Relatively, not much to get blown into around the Bar Buoy, better suggestion would be a Bar wave buoy /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The Humidex, Windchill, and Temp figures appear stuck too at Cobbs Quay, with the figures showing it to be a balmy 8 degrees warmer in Hamworthy. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Is this a ploy to get people off the beaches and into the town? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I have some friends who live just down the road who swear it never rains there either................ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Indeed it does tend to which is interesting but in no way surprising. The www.PooleHarbourWeather.com site is based towards the entrance of the harbour and is not in the relatively sheltered area of Holes Bay. It will be interesting on an ongoing basis to get a feel for how material the difference is. As I write the wind speed differs but the direction is broadly consistent. Wind direction will tend to be roughly the same between the sites but where wind speeds have been light (as they have been for the last few days) then the wind vane is far more susceptible to swinging all over the place

All the other gauges seems to be working okay. Inevitably there will be differences between stations even those within a mile a two of each other. And indeed it is warmer in Hamworthy – the new Sandbanks!

Would love to – my budget doesn’t quite extend to this sadly! That said……..

A weather station at Cobbs Quay is about as useful as one in Dorchester! Neither are exposed to the sea.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the comment. It really comes down to how people try to use such information. Of course a weather station at a marina is never intended to be the key element of whether you go to sea however knowing that it is blowing Force X and that you know getting your boat in and out of its berth can be challenging in such a wind might influence you not to make an unnecessary trip to the marina. Such information will only ever form part of the equation.

That said I would take issue with the statement that "A weather station at Cobbs Quay is about as useful as one in Dorchester! Neither are exposed to the sea." largely because there are rather more boats at Cobbs than in Dorchester !
