Clyde - James Watt dock

Don't worry gents, I don't want to colonise Scotland, simply to sail in your waters, enjoy your scenery, shake your hand, contribute to your economy and learn to drink your whiskey (cant stand the stuff). And then after a couple of years I'll clear 'orf to the Baltic. Is that a deal? Am I welcome with my boat?

Yes, of course, very welcome

And hopefully you will come to enjoy the whisky.............rather than the whiskey

Err, on the West Coast, you need five generations in the local cemetery before you can claim that title! :)

The corollary also holds true - my maternal grandfather came from a Scottish island, my mother never set foot on it, but when I visited, once my antecedents were discussed and accepted, I was introduced to a variety of relations as a member of their extended family.

Ballox, I do not know about Greenock but out here nothing can be arranged with any speed at all!

Reminds me of an old joke.

A spaniard goes to stay in a village in the western isles.

After a few days, he asks if his host is familar with the word "mañana", and how would it be tranlated into Gaelic.

The host thinks for a few minutes, and finally shakes his head and says " I dinna think we've a word that quite expresses that degree of urgency"
