Alistair, get down to Largs and join the "mini-armada", every time I'm down I see more and more boats with LL plates on them. To keep your costs down why not dry berth? Theres a Falcon 24 and a 30 foot MotorCat all on the dry berths....minimum 2 hrs noice required for a launch needed...get your own 4x4 do it yourself when you want...great idea?? Phone up, show up, go boating, finish boating step ashore and they trailer the boat, wash it down and it's ready to go again. If you're interested call Caroline Elder @ the marina and mention my name....you'll either get help or tied to the mast and stoned!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I also had a superb week cruising in the same area 12th-20th July, weather was superb, sea state was smooth every day /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Dumbarton - Sandbank (Dunoon) had 2 stay there for 2 days as they sold out of diesel (7000 litres in 4 hours)
Dunnon - Loch Striven
Loch Strivven - Rothesay
Rothesay - East Tarbert (via the kyles)
East Tarbert - Inverary
Inverary - East Tarbert
East Tarbert - Largs
Largs - Dumbarton

Sealine S24 with a single D-165 £80.00 in fuel and around £90.00 in mooring fees not bad for a great week away in mediterean like weather, got the sun tan to prove it

Alistair , had my S24 on the clyde now for about 2 Months and been out every weekend, never yet seen anything that had me concerned in sea conditions tho I have avoided the North channel except when forecast is good

Dry berthing is a great idea, except for one small problem,,,,,,,,,,,,We don't have a trailer!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We have thought, maybe we should buy one, if we could get it for £2500, that would be the same as the mooring fees, but if we dry berthed it for 2 years, then thats it paid for, and then we have another asset. Long term though, we'd prefer the berthing facility, being only 10mins from Largs, we would be able to use the boat in the evenings, if it was dry berthed we couldn't do that.

So much choice, too many desicions to make!!!
