After a very long and very wet winter here in Ireland, with the occasional blizzard and storm thrown into the mix, I, like many others, eagerly awaited the first signs of spring. Especially that point when the clocks go forward and we begin to see a stretch in the evenings. I'm not a big fan of putting on the lights at 3.30pm but much prefer mid summer light until 10.45 pm.
Well, the clocks changed, but the weather didn't quite do the same. I'm getting itchy feet, waiting for a decent break in the weather, when time and tide permits, to give my new to me Wellcraft, it's maiden voyage, following a lot of work on it.
But despite all that I had done, there were still odds and ends that I'd convinced myself could be done, once she's on the water. But, thanks to the constant clouds etc. I carried on pottering.
And so, in the last two days, I reinforced my swim platform, which complained a bit every time I hauled myself up onto the boarding ladder. I also removed and re-sealed the mounting bolts on the platform supports where they go into the transom. I made up a new aluminium flame arrestor cover, to replace the old misshapen scruffy original.
I also replaced the window trims on the upper deck screen windows, and got my solar panel wiring finished off, complete with a 1, 2 1+2 Off switch, so I can switch between batteries as needed, with the emphasis being on the battery that feeds my bilge pump.
I got my table support organised and fitted, so now the table is in use, when needed. And I varnished the lids on any of the under cushion storage boxes. And finally, thanks to youtube, I started splicing ropes onto my fenders. I have to make up a cover to protect my foldable "bimini" when not in use, but that's a minor, indoors job.
Any day now........................
