I like the design of those boats with closed cockpits which look like they could deal with our weather pretty well. I hear the Scandinavians do some nice ones - any idea what makes I should be looking at?

Hi Phil,

Lots to choose and a great but expensive option. There are Aquador, Flipper, Bella, Yamarin, Uttern, Finnmaster....

I have a 23HT Aquador so have some experience. What are you looking for out of a boat?

Cheers

Paul

Hi Phil.

You asked for ‘those boats with closed cockpits…’ Perhaps you meant enclosed wheelhouse boats – ie a door to shut out the cold and wet, but no flybridge?

You didn’t specify a hull size. And perhaps most important, as Nautorius asks: what are you looking for out of a boat !!! (ie who are you, what type of boating do you want to do, and where?!)

In no particular order… here’s some semi-displacement and planing examples…:

24 to 28 foot hull approx? Botnia Targa 27.1, SB Minor 28, Aquador 25 Cabin, Bella 850, Saga 26, NB 820, Nimbus 280 Coupe, Harley 25FS, Osprey 26 Sportsfisher, Cygnus 28, Hardy Marina, Kent 28, Mitchell 28 Warrior, Seaward 25, Languard 28, ACM 26, Rhea 750, Galeon 280 Sedan, Menorquin 8M, Rodman 800, Starfisher 840, Astinor 840, Quicksilver 750, Lema Galera 7.48, Bénéteau Antares 760, Jeanneau 805, Orkney Sea Angler 24, Hardy 24 Ext/Whse.

Or 28 to say 33 foot hull maybe? Astinor 1000LX, Faeton 930 Moraga, Rodman 900, Beneteau 9.80, Jeanneau 32, Landau Continental 29, Seaward 29, Mitchell 31, Cygnus 33, Channel Island 32, Lochin 33 Fast, Ernecraft Isis 920, Powerglide 30 Sport, Cockwells Launch LIIT, Hardy Commander, Halvorsen Gourmet 32, Kent 31, Aqua Star 33, Kingfisher 31 Sport, SB34, Sciallino S30, Forbino 10000 Fly, Nord West 300 Coupe, Saga 29, Marex 330 Scandinavia, Delphis 10, Nimbus 320 Coupe, Skilso Arctic 975, Botnia Targa 31.1, Vicki 32, Aquador 32 Cabin, NB840, Aqua Bell 33…

Bigger still? Seaward 35, Nimbus 350 Nova Coupe, Rodman 1250 Sport, Eastbay 39 SX Sedan, Legacy 34 Sedan, Nordic Tugs 37 Convertible, Nordhavn 35 Coastal Pilot, Rhea 1100, Halvorsen Gourmet 38, Cornish Diva 36, Trader 41 Sport, Botnia Targa 42, Nimbus 42 Nova Coupe, Oyster LD43, Aercon 44, VDL Pilot 44W, Pendennis 46, Guardian 50, WhisperJet 55 Sedan…

Smaller – 24 foot approx hull or less? Rodman 700, Galera 700, Ocqueteau 700, SB770 Offshore, Viksund 260, Falcon 26, Flipper 787, Finnmaster 7050, Bayliner Trophy 2359, Arvor 700, Orkadian 23, Landau 20 Cruiser, Trusty 21.

The list goes on. And isn’t very up to date… I’m quite sure I’ve left out someone’s pride-and-joy… Nor have we touched on RIB manufacturers with wheelhouses. We should be so thankful we have such a choice… At present.

All the best

Looking for something suitable for weekend trips at least, with occasional longer trips once or twice a year. If it can be towed that would be ideal so would need to be less than 25 ft or so.

It's for cruising rather than fishing or water sports so major speed not required.

The idea appeals more than a sports cruiser as my missus will be coming along and is a bit more sensitive to weather than me!

Thanks for the comments,

Phil

Congratulations on such a comprehensive list. It would take atleast 3 years to do tests on all of them - he'd probably have changed his criteria by then /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
How dare you miss out the Botnia Targa 25!!! Mind you, I don't think the 27 or the 25 are very good as 4 berth boats - super in all other aspects though and of course I'm not biased /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Um, on reflection the requirement for 4 berths does not appear to have been mentioned /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Ok, they are not very good "romantically" as neither have a proper double berth.

Whisper, I'm sorry - You're quite right. Botnia Targa 25. Superb boats. Apologies for missing her out.

But really 'the list' just illustrates that they're lots of boats out there...

As you say, agree about 'criteria'. It's PhilMcC's 'criteria' that's the most important and interesting thing...

Best wishes
