Actually, the boat handling on the canals was easy.
Once under way it is just a matter of steering.
We had strong crosswinds in a number of places.
On the straight, the boat follows her heading well.
In the locks you have to concentrate a bit but otherwise it was fairly easy.
Stick to the golden rule of keeping the boat on the "safe" side of the waterway (upwind etc).
You do get funny wind effects as you go through the locks though.
We have both bow and stern thrusters which I use if I get into trouble.
I was using them a lot to begin with but less towards the end.

In general though - easy - even without the thrusters.
