cliveden island

Seahorses n Swans

"just a note to say that the island at cliveden is currently not allowing any mooring due to a nesting swan."

Does this mean there will be a very bad tempered debate about the merits of evicting the swans because boaters have moored there since the time of King John or leaving them alone to do what swans do or perhaps an pleasant exchange of receipies involving swans !
Will it all be the fault of The EA,BW,the lockies, narrowboaters or G Brown.
Has the swan been interviewed regarding the depth of water and wether dredging is required.
Is the swan a single parent and does it have a BSC.
We should be told.

1. Invoking King John is inappropriate. If I remember correctly (Byron will confirm - he was around at the time), King John and his ilk used to eat swans, therefore hardly impartial.

2. Of course its G Brown's fault. Every adverse condition is. If this argument doesn't fly, or offends the pinkoes, blame Envag.

3. Parental status is not an issue. Unless the swan is on benefits of course in which case its a bloody disgrace.

4. Potentially at least, the swan does not need a BSC. Unmotorised and presumably no gas on board.

5. I would imagine the swan is quite happy with the depth of water since it comes at least half-way up its chest so probably no support for complaints from that direction.

Despite hours of trying, I am at a loss to pin any of the blame for this on narrow-boaters. :)

Swan should have been stopped at Teddington, it's sewage system discharges straight into the river*. We need to know why it wasn't sealed or given a time period to have a holding tank fitted.

*or onto my bathing platform, a capital offence if I had my way:-)

And why didn't it make its nest on the Nature Reserve island?

Totally irresponsible, and typical of the youth of today. No sense of responsibility... Rant Rant etc!

By the way, according to "The River Thames Book" by Chris Cove-Smith the islands are called "Sloe Grove Islands" or "Bavin's Gulls".

I would have turned it away on safety grounds.

Does anyone know the swan is on the Thames ? you should be careful mentioning that the swan lives on the Thames and it's location.

I bet the Swan is an illegal immigrant a British Swan would nevernest where it is inconvenient for Boaters. Vote BNP and get her out.

"illegal immigrant "

Tell em to clear off back to Greenland or wherever they came from and what happened to the 8k limit during landings and takeoffs, course all EA bods off somewhere drinking tea or more probably online when you need one. Blimming swans think they own the river everyone else keeps to right they wander all over the place !
