Anybody got any experience of these boats at sea/coastal use? are they planeing or semi-displacement? any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks but the only info I could find was on the smaller 23ft rather than the 28ft 850.

Info from my little book, says of the 850,

"Essex Yacht Bulders launched the 850 in 1970 and they and their successors, Eastwood Marine and Cleopatra Cruisers built around 350 boats up to 1985. Three versions of the boat were built. The standard version called the Family Cruiser; the International Version which has an outside helm only and the Sportsrider which has a large cockpit and less accommodation. FC has 4 berths, 2 in forward cabin and 2 in wheelhouse; I.V. has 5 berths with add'l berth in deck saloon. SR has just 2 berths in a forward cabin and an outside cockpit helm position.

Hull shape is medium vee. Standard and most common engines installation is a pair of of 130HP Volvos driving through outdrives and giving top speed of about 25knots.

LOA 27ft 10" (8.48m); Beam 9ft 4" (2.84m), draught 2ft 7" (0.79m), hull and deck GRP."

I'm sure I've typed this before.

Many thanks for the info. The layout of the FC is just what I am looking for. I want to use it for mainly coastal work with some river use but most seem to be used on rivers so I am a bit uneasy as to how they may perform in a seaway. Any suggestions gratefully received.
