Cleddau Moorings

hi
thinking of re-locating boat from Menai to Pembrokeshire, ideallly a mooring a few miles upstream from Neyland. A number of boatyards do maintained moorings but at a substantial cost - anyone know how or if moorings on the river are regulated and by whom?
hopefully mooring licences can be obtained at a reasonable cost via Pembroke County Council?
does being in the Pembrokeshire Park have any other implications for boating apart from (pity!) water skiing and jetskis being banned.
any info/contacts would be most welcome. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is a milford haven port authority (http://recreation.mhpa.co.uk/), but they have other bodies administering the moorings for them at different bits of the river.

We have a mooring at Dale, administered by Dale yacht club, (without being members, though we intend to join). The cost is small, and you can maintain it yourself.

The other moorings that I know of are Rudders boatyard, and Lawrenny Yacht station, but I don't think you can maintain your own there.

I met a couple with a Catalac based in Pothmadog on Dale pontoon earlier in the year; was it you?

Moorings are administered by voluntarry control bodies. When I last checked there was very little available that didn't dry out except at Angle and possibly Dale.

I am on all the waiting lists, PM me if you want any more details.

Can confirm there is nothing available above the bridge without a long waiting list and the only 'public' moorings wherebelow the bridge where at Milford but now closed. Most of the Yach clubs below the bridge can allocate space for you to lay your own mooring and mebershit is typically £10-£20 per year plus a nominal registration for laying the mooring. There is a substantial set of moorings between the bridge and Hobbs piont which I think may be administered by Kelpie Boats at Hobbs piont but if not they would now who to appoach.

The sailing here is fantastic and you can get out whatever the weather!

There are 2 options - commercially maintained moorings such as Rudders and Lawrenny (above the bridge) or Vol Control areas - mnagaed by the various sailing clubs (the one at Hobbs point is managed by the sailing club there) - these can have long waiting lists - depending on requirements - these exist at Langwm, Lawrenny, Hobbs Point, Gelliswick, Angle and Dale.

Dale can give you issues with some insurers - there was a bad claim there many years ago

P.S Skiing (and alas jet skiing) is allowed - but only in certain zoned areas

also up further to the right of Picton point (name escapes me) by the landing for the Stanley arms.

There are some outside of Lawrenny ( by the house with the crane)

How about neyland yacht club?

agree with above. i believe there are some moorings available at lawrenny but these are boatyard moorings and so you will pay more than self laid.. dale has a w/l but not huge i believe especially if you can take the ground or low draft.otherwise its going on a w/l. i believe that there is still a right to lay a mooring anywhere in milford haven with the consent of the authority and where there are is not already occupied/assigned; trouble is all the sheltered areas are well populated

Strictly correct - but having tried it Port Authority will no longer grant anyone permission to lay a mooring outside the VC areas - may be some slight exceptions if you actually own a waterfront proerty in a suitable location - but otherwise not much chance I suspect

We spent one night at Lawrenny Yacht station and I for one am in no rush to go back.

Near impossible to get onto the pontoon between the tightly packed half submerged dinghies around the rusting hulk of a floating pontoon cum empty fuel tank type thing. Make sure your tetanus jabs are up to date as the chances of rust splinters from the handrails is high.

The rather pathetic showers are shared with the campsite which is a trek to get to from the chandlers where (when open) you pay your bills and buy shower tokens. A £1 token gives you literally 60 seconds of lukewarm water, just enough to leave you lathered up and burning eyes to feed the meter, that is after you have banged on the wall and got your mrs to pop around from the ladies as she has tomorrows tokens in her bag.

There is a nice pub on the front, but the food is very 1978.

The moorings on the inlet part seem fine, but there are also some on the main stretch which I would not like to have to get to if the wind was hurtling down the haven, many power boats do not obey limits and fly past close to the moorings. The moorings on the inlet seem to be full but for around 4 visitor spots. But they are deep water moorings.

The caravan site seems a little, well, I would not want to stay on it or have some of the incessant moped riding kids as neighbours.

Maybe someone on here will say I am sprouting rubbish and it is a lovely place, but my expectations are maybe a little different.

On the plus side, on the boat you get lovely views and out of earshot of the site is is very quiet and tranquil.

There seems to be an active boat yard there which was very tidy and in good order.

It rains a lot in summer, or maybe just when we sail there.
