To me it makes perfect sense to have clear lids on the raw water strainers so we can see what going on inside without having to take the lid off and get salt water all over the pump!

I know Vetus do them for their own kit but is there anything available for Volvo strainers? I've looked and can't find anything.

With the sheer amount of VP engines out there i can't believe that nobody has made one already?

Any thoughts folks?

You could try a pm to Mathewriches of this forum, I'm just waiting for him to come back on a price for some replacements for my engines. Comes highly recommended :)

Volvo certainly do them for D4/6, engines so I assume other engines, my boat came with the original plastic ones which I replaced with clear.

As well as a clear lid a few floating plastic balls in there makes it much easier to spot if water is flowing through the filter at a glance, I got some from a kids game and get spinning eyeballs looking at me when I check, can't remember what game they are from though.
I did this after having trouble with one side not priming all the time, saves having to wait for something to overheat.

I could not find an off the shelf clear lid so rather than replace the complete assembly I made my own clear lid out of 8mm perspex.Raw water strainer with clear lid modification.jpg been working perfectly for 3 years now. The bolts in the corners just hold the sheet of neoprene that is the seal.
