clear coat paint over name decal?

hi all. ive just put on a big decal of the boats name on the back of my small 22ft yacht. that part of the boat has been painted with toplac boat paint. it looks great but i fear it will peel off easy. i was thinking of spraying the back with clear coat over the decal to keep it from peeling [ like you would do with motorbike tank]. do you think this will work or will it mess up everything?

It'll mess everything up! Your name decal should be on permanent adhesive vinyl, it shouldn't peel off.

I think you will struggle to find a clear coat that will adhere to a pvc decal. The decal probably won't peel of if it is put on properly but any coating might...

If the Toplac was thoroughly cleaned, it'll stay on. How many have you seen see dangling off?

It definitely won't come off. Just leave it alone or maybe wax over the area.

thanks for the replies folks i will leave it as is. i had sprayed soapy water on the back before applying sticker [as in video] and i guess it was'nt dry enough when i was taking film off.

This is my name decal just after fitting

And this is the same decal 5 years later.

Fitted in the same way as yours and no covering clear coat.
