I generally flush "Milton" solution through my tank and pipes, although I have never yet suffered (detected?) an algae/mould growth. Back in the days when we owned a touring caravan we did occasionally experience this problem in the water system and cured it with Milton or some similar sterilizing agent. Good quality stainless tanks will withstand extremely caustic cleaning processes, such as the CIP systems used in the food industry, but calorifier matrices might not be so happy. Make sure that any cleaner you may put in to the system is flushed through well with fresh water in order that you do not cause any damage.

Hope you get it sorted (shouldn't prove to difficult).

I have fitted Plastimo wobbly tanks on Solitaire and the instructions specifically mention flushing through with vinegar as you state, so it must be right.

I now use 'miltons' or the equivalent from boots, etc. Used to use beer steriliser but struggle to get it. It's also worth doing the hose if its your own. Flush through with plenty of fresh water to remove any chemical taste. Touch wood this has worked for over 20 years on s/s tanks ...

Chlorine bleaches preferably not the "thick" sort seem to work pretty well. You will need to rinse fully. Obviously if you can get at the inside of your tank this is a good thing to do. Mine was accessible but deep so I bought a new Vileda mop and a bottle of bleach. It worked well.
