I have an ablative antifoul, and I snorkel and use a squeegee or rubber blade(on a broom handle) to remove the slime that accumulates on my boat. I then use a soft brush (which is the other side of the blade) to gently remove any remaining slime and expose some fresh antifoul. I do this about every 6 - 8 weeks. My yacht is in a high fouling area in New Zealand and I can get about 15 months or so between haul-outs.
