Could you please help and advise me if the pro clean or simalar works well with cleaning the engine and heat exchanger or if it is better to take it all apart and do it manualy? Ian Parish (Fandangle shotley)

I would take it apart, it’s simple enough and as a result in my case the engine is running much cooler. Could be something to do with the 4 impeller vanes I found. I only knew about 2 of them….

do you mean Md2030
if so fairly simple main thing is making sure endcaps (rubber) are in the correct place but they may require replacing
if it’s 2002/3 make sure the covers go according to original mark them before dismantlong
Also cover seals if not 2000 series does not apply

Thank you the boat is 1999 and I will mark the end caps before taking them off and buy new seals.

I suspect that you are confusing my reply regarding Volvo engine designations

2000 series refers to a range of engines which include 1 2 3 cyl and 3 cyl turbocharged know as 2001 2002 2003 and 2003T
with HP rating 9/cylinder all identified by oil filter at front and sea water cooled with option of fresh water cooling via a tubular heat exchanger with bronze end caps

MD2020 is a later engine originally built for Perkins and sold brand asVolvo all freshwater cooled and the cooler is built into exhaust manifold
the tube stack has rubber end caps incorporating water hose connection
hope this clarifies your question
