I floated quietly in last sunday. Heart in mouth as tractor pulled 6 tons of boat on its cradle quarter of a mile then reversed down slip. Beautiful feeling as tide lifted her off 5 hours later.
Rented swinging mooring until September - 320 euros. Damn the expense...
We have just moved our boat to Fleetwood - Newtsville - she's in the main fairway (but on the marina office side, not with the catholics on Freeport side /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).
Quite agree with you and Ken. Should be able to sail throughout the winter, even in the frozen wastelands up here.
Boat needed urgent attention with new engine which progressed to stern galnd etc etc etc...
Even so. Looking about the marinas during the winter, up here very few boats actually go out for a sail after November. My parents' house ovelooks the Kyles of Bute and they rarely see even mobos out.
I doubt I would get insurance for my swinging mooring.
It can be a lonely old part of the world in December and January. After the gales at the back end I succumbed and took the sails down in late November to reduce windage, which meant I was stuck with short motor outings to clear her bum and charge the batteries. I got to Kames a couple of times to eat in the hotel, but the moorings were kinda lumpy.
I can only manage 3rd party insurance for a winter mooring.
I had a lovely January and February working on my boat handling coming in and out of the very tricky berth we had at Deacon's, it felt all the better for the fact that we were paying less than we were previosuly paying for the hard standing!
I appreciate that a boat of Merit's age needs to dry out occasionally though and if she is still mine come October, I think she'll be laid up somewhere.

I really couldn't imagine getting any kind of insurance for my mooring at Kames /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Anyway, it means that I can pop down to the boat for a cuppa quite easily during the winter in the boatyard in Dumbarton.

Did you see the weather this winter, F10, F11, F9, F3-4 (for 7 minutes), F11
I take mine out every second year, unfortunately that is this year but she should be back in within the fortnight. If she is in over winter I often go out and have been known to sail on new year's day.
