Hi All, we have had a very good service from someone in a local boat yard. I know he is into his classic boats, he does a lot of wood repairs and makes a great job, he's a craftsman. He has helped us a lot. I know he buys classic boat magazine but as a thank you I'd like to buy him a really nice book. I really do not know about clasic boats so if anyone has any recomendations please let me know. Thanks

Where are you and what type of classic boat - yachts, smacks, gaffers, barges?

London Light by Jim Lawrence an interesting read by an incredible man, - sailing and public speaking right to the last - the smack dock area is not the same without him.

I'm in Lincolnshire. His own boat is a small sailing boat (you can see I'm not an expert sorry) but I see the work he does on other peoples boats, old and new but he always goes the extra mile, so I really want to show my appreciation.

Maybe 'An Eye for Innovation: The Life of Austin 'Clarence' Farrar' by David Chivers - about designing and building fast boats and sails - (Not the other Austin Farrar listed on line)

And of course a full box set of 'Swallows and Amazons' - but not so easy to sail across the North Sea now - too many wind farms and shipping lanes in the way.

For construction detail it might be anything by John Leather or Uffa Fox, although not all in print.

Where is your friend in Lincolnshire and what type of boats does he work on - sea or fen rivers - motor or sail? - Perhaps you can write his story.

"Sailing Just for Fun" by Charles Stock..........an amazing guy who for many years sailed a 16 foot small cruiser around the Thames estuary and east coast.

It would be good to know who this is, or the name of the yard. It’s always good to know who’s around, and working on wooden boats. There aren’t so many
