Clacton Airshow

Had the opposite problem, found a lucky it and brought up twice the anchor's weight in clay. Worth all the bumpy stuff for the Vulcan and Lancasters, and spitfires/hurricane.
Well the wind turned up, 20 to 28kts at Landguard.
Had a blast back up the Wallet under main only and averaged 7kts, got the genoa out after the Naze and sustained 8 kts peaking at 9.5kts - so that was fun as well :)
And of course met 2 new faces from the ECF - top people on Swatchways :)

No fussed about shower or motoring against tide we'd love to see the whole thing but just couldn't get the flipping thing to set yesterday and then arms were knackered! Oh yes, manual...! ;)
Surely less wind means slightly less rolling about or am I being optimistic? (Only bit 1st mate isn't fond of!)

Also found a nice lump of clay, (not far from Habety) and didn't move and inch, although others were dragging at a rate of knots. We were just off the row of marker bouys and it was a perfect place at the centre of the show.

Great show, wouldn't have missed it for anything and very different from seeing it from the beach, it was a bit wet back to Mersea with a dead header peaking at 29 knots but a good day.

Seeing the Vulcan yesterday made the very wet, bumpy return to Bradwell worth it ... and the sound as it climbed!

Below is my best effort from a bouncing boat

I didn't sail to Clacton as I just didn't fancy the swell. However, having been sat in the crowd on Clacton next time I'm going to endure the swell!!!... Here's some photos that I thought I'd share with you all. Not the best as the light was pretty dark on Friday but I thought I'd share anyway. The sound of the Hurricane, Spitfire and the two Lancasters in the distance as they approached was just awesome.

Went Friday as planned and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good old Danforth set first time. Did get a little peed off when a large(ish) ketch decided to park itself between me and the line of buoys which I had left not a lot of room off from and blocked what would have been a perfect photo position. I think a couple of the jet ski police had a bit of an opinion about how close it was to the 'no go' area but they never moved them on:(

Strangely the water seemed to flatten off just as the Lancs arrived, which pleased by photographer/crew.
I am sure the Typhoon used our mast as a reference point as it gave us a great show.

Unc
