Midweek afternoon shopping for some essentials new deck’ies, 501’s etc taking a few hour’s out from my busy self employed lifestyle, upon visiting shopping centre I made some profound observations ! where’s all the blokes ? I started taking serious log! 95% females shopping madhollicks, 3% males ( trolley pushing sherpa’s) for the 95% madhollicks, 1% males being measured for slippers and cardies by their better half’s, 1% males shopping for the mistress, back to the question Where are all the Men ? conclusion !! hard at work earning loads a dosh for the shopper hollick fairer sex.

This time of year the men are all getting drunk at office parties while their women are desparately searching for presents for the mens mothers brothers, nieces, nephews etc- anything but essentials for themselves.IMHO

Spoken like a true feminist - seriously tho' there has been quite a lot of social research pointing to the fact that men do their shopping for Christmas at the 11th hour.
In fact we've all left it increasingly till the last minute, hence the desperate re-evaluation of the statistics every year.
Probably down to some shrewd economic sense - leave it till the desperate shopkeeper has marked it down, and part to increasing reaction to the whole travesty of modern Anglo-Saxon Christmas.

Only 1% of man being measured by the 'other halfs'?
I was in one of the leader Norwegian mens retailers at the weekend and I saw at least 5 sad looking chaps being measure, ie clothes hung up against them by not only their 'other half' but also the female assistant' who between them were discussing the 'pros and cons' of the objects across the face of these poor unfortunate 'fellow men'.
This was happening in each mens shop I went into... and still she could find me anything suitable to wear...

And why do "they" buy the biggest things first?

They carry them for 2 minutes then it's down to you to hump the boxes around for the rest of the afternoon.

When was the last time you went into the chandlery picked up yer antifoul and haul it round while you look for a bolt to fix the companionway hatch???

To add a female point of view - When was the last time most men even went shopping for pressies ?? And if they got the heaviest thing first it is usually because they know men will be fed up of shopping very quickly and will throw a sulk if they have to go back to a shop they have already been in/walked past!!

And why do I end up carrying all the bags ??? (USUALLY BECAUSE I DO ALL THE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING ON MY OWN) and when he does come shopping we just buy stuff for HWMBO - he is very sneeky, and I'll suddenly look at him and realise that I have all the bags and he has none.. and according to him this is my fault, after all these years I can't figure how it happens even when he starts off with all the bags I end up with them. My new name is Sherpa Hobson.

And forget women and shoes - how many coats and jackets does one man need !! Don't even ask how many fleeces he has...... and he NEVER buys anything that is in a sale.

And on Christmas Day he will ask... What have we got for my Mum? (While I am cooking Christmas dinner for 8 with a further 12 arriving at night)

The presents will be wrapped while he watches football and the dinner will be cooked while he is in the pub.

And I haven't got any other presents this year because "you haven't dropped me any hints so we'll get something for the boat" so I have the one I bought myself - and it was on sale!!!!! And no that doesn't mean I get twice as much stuff because I saved money.

So do I feel sorry for men at Christmas???? NO!! Well not in my house. If you see these women buying designer shoes and with men carrying their heavy parcels - send them over to me so I can learn their secret.

Ruth

PS I feel so much better now I've got that off my chest
